Picture your parents working in the World Trade Center that the terrorists attacked on September 11th. You and your parents were worried about one another.
You discover that you do not have a cell phone or any device to contact your parents. There won’t be any chance that you and your parents could contact each other. What would you do? How would you feel? It seems to me that if cell phones were allowed in schools, students could contact their parents easier and people could stay in touch. Therefore, cell phones should be allowed to be used in schools. For one, cell phones could provide students with academic help. According to Apple, about 1.
5 million of their electronic devices are being used in classrooms. For example, students can take a picture of the blackboard in the classroom so they don’t need to copy down notes. There are also free calendar applications on the phone for students to enter down notes. There are also free calendar applications on the phone to enter the essential dates for teachers to make plans for what to do in class. These are just some of the benefits of cell phones which evidentially make our life manageable.
According to Lincoln Southeast Public High School, the school allowed students to use their cell phones among classes and lunch time. But when students are in class, their cell phones need be out of sight and turned-off. The Principal of Lincoln Southeast Public High School said,” We used to say we banned them and students couldn’t have them. But the reality is everybody has them.
” This quote clearly shows that the reality is lots of students in the school use their cell phones when they shouldn’t. According to Pew Research survey, 71% of American students from ages 12~17 own a cell phone. In fact, it is more eco-friendly and easier because we can use cell phones for school use instead of carrying books around and wasting papers. According to The Huntsville Item, their study said that phones may replace books within a few years because cell phones have easier access than textbook and cell phones are lighter than your textbooks. In addition, many parents worry about their child(ren) in school.
If schools allowed cell phones to be used in school, parents could contact their child(ren) if necessary.According to Debatepedia, students could also call for help by entering the emergency numbers or call the ambulance faster. If we don’t have a cell phone to contact our parents, we will need to borrow the phone in the office. Sometimes the school phone line could be jammed and you need to wait for a while to call. As you can see, these are some of the reasons that shows why I think cell phones should be allowed to be used in schools. I believe the opposing side may argue that students will not be focused in school or will play with their cell phones during class time texting or play online games.
However, in many classrooms, electronics such as cell phones prove to be essential in learning. Think about his question, “What do kids learn about cell phones being confiscated in school? ” There is no lesson that kids can learn about cell phones be confiscated in school because it could the parent’s fault calling and calling their child during class time. According to Apple, students who are allowed to use electronic devices in school are engaged and their test scores have shown progress. This clearly shows that those electronic devices are very beneficial to students. As you can see, cell phones should be allowed in schools because they provide academic help and they are more eco-friendly. Think about carrying a light electronic device to school in an easy way instead of bringing a heavy load of books to school and having back problems.
You should talk to your assistant principal or dean about allowing cell phones in schools, maybe you could be the one that can change their point of view and help them realize that cell phones will change the whole face of education.
