Short for World Wide Web Consortium.

It is the international governing body for the development of platform independent web standards and specifications.

Access Provider
a business that provides individuals and organizations access to the Internet free or for a fee
ISP
(Internet Service Provider) A company that provides access to the Internet.
OSP
online service provider, provides access to the internet but also provides a variety of other specialized content and services such as the news and weather

IP Address
Internet Protocal address- a number that uniquely identifies each computer or device connected to the Internet
TLD
(top-level domain.) last section of the domain name, identifies the type of organization associated with the domain.
Domain Name
text version of an IP address
WWW
World Wide Web; a system of interlinked hypertext documents contained on the internet.
Web Site
A related group of Web pages usually belonging to an organization or individual.

Web Server
A computer that delivers (servers) Web pages you request.
Web 2.0
Term used to refer to Web sites that provide a means for users to share personal information, allow users to modify Web site content, and have application software built into the site for visitors to use.
Web 3.0
the next (third) phase in online usage, also called the Semantic Web, which will make it possible for websites to "understand" the relationships between elements of web content.
Web Browser
Software installed on a computer system that allows individuals to locate, view, and navigate the Web.

Home Page
Main page of a web site; usually the first page.
Downloading
The process of receiving information onto your computer from a server on the Internet.
URL

Built in connection to another related Web page or part of a Weg page
Search Engine
A software program you can use to find Web sites, Web pages, and Internet files.
Subject Directory
A structured outline of Web sites organized by topics and subtopics.
Multi-mediA
transmission that combine media of communication (text and graphics and sound etc.

Graphic
Digital representation of non-text information such as a drawing, chart, or photo. See also graphical image.
JPEG
Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group. JPEG is a compression technique for color images. Although it can reduce files sizes to about 5% of their normal size, some detail is lost in the compression.

GIF
stands for graphics interchange format. It also includes data compression, but because it is limited to 256 colors, it is more effective for scanned images such as illustrations rather than color photos.
Thumbnail
A small version of a larger graphical image you usually can click to display the full-sized image.
Animation
a simulation of movement or the perception of motion created by the rapid display of a series of still images

the process of transferring data in a continuous and even flow
Podcast
digital audio and video files made readily available to interested people via computers and portable devices

Instant Messaging
A form of electronic communication that allows you to send and receive text messages in "real time" from friends and colleagues who are currently online.
Chat
Real-time typed conversation that takes place on a computer.
Chat Room
a site on the internet where a number of users can communicate in real time (typically one dedicated to a particular topic)
VoIP
enables users to speak to other users over the internet
FTP
Internet standard that permits file uploading and downloading with other computers on the Internet.
Netiquette
The etiquette ( or manners) on the Internet.
Emoticon
Symbols used on the Internet to express emotion.
Spam
Unsolicited e-mail messages or newsgroups posting sent to many recipients or newsgroups at once.
Flame
Abusive or insulting messages
