In the movie "As good as it gets" Melvin Dual portrays a man who lives with obsessive compulsive disorder in New York. Some of rituals are turning on every light switch and turning every lock five times before he can leave. Melvin also wears gloves to protect his hands from coming into full contact with anything but if that does not work he will wash his hands repeatedly. COD makes Melanin's life very rigid; he has to eat breakfast at the same table at the same restaurant every day.Melanin's ritualistic behaviors disrupt his interpersonal and professional life. Melvin works at home as a novelist, with a precise order for things in his home.

Melanin's interpersonal life is affected by him being obsessed with contamination, which in the movie makes it hard for him to develop close personal relationships with a woman he likes. Through these actions it is safe to say that Melvin Dual suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder. Narcolepsy Movie: Rat race Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder caused by the brain poorly regulating sleep- wake cycles.Narcoleptics are prone to excessive daytime sleepiness and disturbed actuarial sleep.

Narcoleptics experience ERM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep much faster that most people. In the Rat Race, Enrich Polling played by Rowan Atkinson is overtaken with sleep at random moments during the movie. Enrich Polling is about to win the prize at near the end of the movie, the only thing that he has left to do is to turn a key and open a locker but falls asleep standing. An attack of narcolepsy can occur at inappropriate times and places. Narcolepsy causes Enrich lose the race.I can see how narcolepsy can disrupt one's daily life.

Along with the panic attacks ND lack of sleep, Tony becomes very reclusive and works in his basement for days on end.

I think Tony is working to stay busy so he can keep the near death experience off his mind and also to try to find a way to keep another near death experience from happening. Structure of personality Movie: Emperor's New Groove According to Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud, there are three main mental entities that make up of structure personality. 'd, Ego and Superego are the different entities we use to determine our behavior and how we approach life. The ID represents our basic instincts, hunger, thirst, sex and aggression. ID follows the pleasure principle and seeks instant gratification.

The ego represents our reason and good will. Ego operates with the reality principle, ego represents us. Superego is our inner conscience giving us options to do something different. It is up to the Ego to keep the peace between the ID and Superego. In "Emperor's New Groove," Kronor kidnaps the emperor and throws him into a river. At this moment Kronor is confronted by a devil (ID) and angel (Superego) both telling him to do something different.

The angel is telling him to rescue the emperor because it is the right thing o do and it will help him to follow the righteous path.While the devil tells him to forget the emperor and to listen to whatever he has to say because it will be fun. The devil seeks pleasure and instant gratification so it is safe to say that he is the ID. The angel is acting as a moral guardian and trying to get Shrunk to do something different. There is a constant battle between the ID and superego for control. This struggle has to be regulated by the ego, causing us to decide between pleasure and what we know is right.

Though the super ego wins, it is the ID who usually comes out on top.Schizophrenia Movie: A Beautiful mind Schizophrenia is a long term mental disorder that makes it hard to tell the difference between what is real and what is not. Schizophrenia can be thought of as a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion and behavior. This disorder can cause a withdrawal from reality and personal relationships, turning them into delusions and fantasy. In "A Beautiful Mind" the protagonist suffers from schizophrenia.

The protagonist, John Nash, quickly comes to the realization that he has the disorder, after a confrontation with government agent he images.This infiltration never happens but is witnessed by John's wife, who is struck during the struggle. This act caused John to realize that the man he fought with was all in his head and that he did suffer from schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can be thought of as scary because of a split in personality as depicted in many movies, this is not true. Schizophrenia is a split of the brain not personality.

This disorder causes one to lose connection with thoughts, perceptions and feelings. Based on John's inability to distinguish between reality and fantasy and also his delusions; it is safe to say that John Nash suffers from schizophrenia.
