The Chapter Four of Great Gatsby showed Gatsby intentional justification of his actions as well as his past experiences and struggles. The narrator also discussed new characters that helped Gatsby to pursue his characterization as good and bad person at the same time. He has his own hidden agenda to become closer to the one he love, Daisy Buchanan.

Through this, he became a negativist person with cruel actions that is uncomfortable with people observing him. Gatsby’s characterization started to reveal in both negative and positive aspect. The narrator illustrated how Gatsby became appalling just to reunite once again with his long time love.People close to him depicts Gatsby as the unfamiliar man who seemed to hide the things that he wanted to do. Because of this, Nick became a detective to reveal the actions of Gatsby as the narrator relates the situations and occurrence that may happen during Gatsby’s existence in an event. Another significant event that happened in this chapter is when Gatsby asked Nick describe him the way he depicts him.

Nick could not thoroughly discuss his feelings towards Gatsby so he told him safe justifications that would make Gatsby more comfortable to him. However, Gatsby was not a simple person who asked someone to describe him for nothing.He counter-attacked Nick as his way of knowing the perception of Nick towards him so he could do his hidden agenda that would happen in the next chapters of the novel. At the end of Chapter Four, the narrator described how Gatsby went to Daisy’s dock to see and reunite with him once again. The narrator explained thoroughly how Gatsby prepared his meeting with Daisy as his way of getting back from their unclosed relationship during the war.
