I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is an integral part of who I am.
I have always known I wanted to be a nurse. To care for people in need with compassion and empathy. When I was young I would make makeshift hospitals and treat any animal could get my hands on. I have always been fascinated by anatomy and physiology, so far as to operate and dissect on worms when I was younger.
When I accidentally found my way into perioperative nursing I felt that I had found my calling.I believe that the core of nursing is to provide quality nursing care while taking into account the patient and their family member’s beliefs, customs, and traditions. Treating each patient compassionately and empathetically regardless of his or her color, race, and nationality. Recognizing and addressing their cultural and religious beliefs establishes a healthy and positive relationship between the nurse and the patient. I believe that the focus of nursing is promoting health, providing compassionate, empathetic care during illnesses. To assist other health professionals in the treatment of illnesses, preventive care, and education.
To formulate nursing care plans that aid in the nursing care of the patients. My vision as a nurse is that I will continue to adhere to the high standards that I have set. To live by the ANA Code of Ethics. I will remain loyal to myself and my practice by keeping abreast of new educational and technologic advances in medicine and nursing practice. I will continually seek to further my knowledge and nursing practice.
I will keep up with the educational and technological advances within my field so I may continue to my professional growth and maintain competence. To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this about the following:1. My patients are human beings who deserve to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their color, race, ethnicity, and cultures. My patients deserve compassionate and empathetic nursing care.
My patients deserve the right to confidentiality and privacy of their care and records. My patients have the right to make their own decisions regarding their care.2. My patients’ families deserve to be treated respectfully and compassionately regardless of their color, race, ethnicity, and culture.
My patient’s family will be included in the patients care and kept informed as best as is permitted by the patient.3. My fellow health care professionals deserve to be treated respectfully and professionally. They deserve to work with a competent, educated, and mentally, and physically health team member. I will treat each member how I would like to be treated.
4. My own health is as important as my patients. I deserve the same compassionate care as my patient. I need to take time to apply stress management techniques, incorporate exercise and proper diet to my routines.
I need to follow what I teach.
