People have different perceptions towards societal problems. Some would opt to face difficulties with their head up high, while others would opt to just go on with life and forget everything that has happened. One of the major problems experienced by people nowadays is the use of illegal drugs. Parents, for the most part, are the ones greatly affected by such predicament. At a young age, their children’s curiosity has opened them to a whole new world that is far different from what they are accustomed to.

In so doing, the children learn to use illegal drugs, and act differently towards their parents. For such, I believe that the parents should test their children for drugs especially when the situation calls for it. Testing children and those young adults below 18 years of age would come as an advantage for both the parents and society. For the most part, parents are in charge of caring for their children, especially in making sure that they grow up to become responsible adults of this country.

When parents feel that their children are using illegal drugs, it is their moral obligation to make sure that such actions be put to an end. After much thought, I have formulated some reasons as to why parents should test their children for use of illegal drugs. First, the parents have every right to know what is happening to their children. As children mature and grow older, the parents become lenient and allow them to freely express themselves. However, some children abuse this kind of freedom given to them and act differently towards their parents. Parents, on the other hand, would have to show the authority deemed from them by the children and make sure that the children are receiving the kind of discipline they need.

Parents always want the best for their children, and if they feel that the children are somewhat using drugs, then it is their prerogative to have their children tested. Second, the children do not know what they are getting themselves into by satisfying their curiosity and being pressured by peers. Children have different personalities. Some would become more superior towards the others. There was a handful who would survive school without worrying on how to cope with what everyone does. Most students, on the other hand, would do things just to fit in the crowd.

The use of drugs has never been hidden from society, and this would prompt some to use the said drugs. Using the drugs would make the children feel that they have their own world, wherein they would temporarily forget the pressures and problems that the real world would offer them. There are some children who would opt to keep their problems to themselves than ask help form their parents. Such actions may be prevented if an open communication exists between the parents and the children.Third, some children do not know the difference between drinking therapeutic drugs and addictive drugs. Perhaps, this is one of the most common problems experienced by the parents.

For a given time, children are prescribed specific drugs for their therapeutic effect. However, the children become used to drinking the drug, and drink the drug out of habit. What they do not know is that some of the drugs contain ingredients that are considered to be addictive. In this regard, it is the parents’ obligation to make sure that they monitor the drug intake of their children. From everything that has been said, I believe that the parents should test their children for drugs, especially when the situation calls for it.

I reiterate my stand by saying: first, the parents have every right to know what is happening to their children; second, the children do not know what they are getting themselves into by satisfying their curiosity and being pressured by peers; and lastly, some children do not know the difference between drinking therapeutic drugs and addictive drugs. Let us all work together to form a responsible society.
