Psychology is a diverse area of study. Within this paper it will discuss the influence of diversity and it’s major concepts within psychology. It will also discuss subtopics within psychology, as well as how subtopics are identified, and applied to other disciplines within society. As well as, explain how these subtopics affect my personal theoretical perspective. Lastly, it will discuss how my contribution of studying psychology will benefit society within my area of profession in which I hope to achieve in my near future.

Theorists influence of Diversity and Major concepts within Psychology Diversity has a huge impact on psychology, such as perspectives, influences, and different concepts. Such as each theorist, have his or her own views and perspectives on psychology. For their different views on human behaviors, cognition, perception, or social or psychological factors that may hinder ones behaviors or thought process. Theorist and their own views, beliefs and perspectives on psychology is a prime example of diversity, because as we all know no two individuals thinks nor perceives things even psychology within the same manner. With all the diverse perspectives, elements, and theories within psychology, it makes it a challenge for researchers, psychologists, counselors and teachers, or mental health care professionals.

Because the theories of psychology and it’s subtopics are so complex and diverse. Additionally this makes it a challenge to diagnose nor treat individuals. Subtopics and Subdivisions within psychology and the effects on Disciplines Motivation There are different theories of motivation. Maslow’s theory of hierarchy of needs, and Herzbergs motivation theory. Maslow’s theory is based off of his hierarchy of needs and personality theory.Maslow believed that for an individual to have sactifaction that their needs must be met, Maslow also explains how these needs are met.

“It has been stated by (Maslow, 1970) that a person usually follows the same pattern, and that an individual cannot move to achieve their next need, until the individuals prior need is met first. ” Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory is based off of four types of needs. As follows’ psychological need has to do with an individual’s hunger, thirst and sex needs. Safety needs of an individual’s are based off of one’s protection, stability, and security.Next is the love and belongingness need, this has to do with loneliness, love, and belonging. Another need is esteem, every individual longs to have respect from others, as well as have self- respect.

The last need is self -actualization which means to fulfill ones potentials. Herzberg theory of motivation differs a bit from Maslow’s. Herzberg’s theory was based off of one’s needs in a professional elements. Herzberg was trying to discover a theory that would avoid employees’ dissatisfaction and gains satisfaction within his or her work environment. So he came up with these six factors.

The factors that lead to dissatisfaction are, salary, relationship with peers, company policy, work conditions, relationship with boss, and supervision. The factors that lead to satisfaction are growth, advancement, recognition, achievement, responsibility, and work itself (Herzberg, 1959). These are not separate from one another to gain satisfaction. However, without dissatisfaction to gain satisfaction there would be none at all. So in order to gain satisfaction ones psychosocial and psychological needs must be met.

Which all these elements can hinder ones emotions. Emotions as mentioned in (Myers, 2004), have to do with complexity of one’s feelings, that influence ones thoughts and behaviors, as well as change his or her physical and psychological elements. If ones emotions are hindered then the individuals temperament, personality and motivation is hindered as well. This will cause avoidance behavior due to being over stimulated, which can cause anxiety for an individual. Therefore, he or she will also lack in motivation and have behavioral issues.

Behaviorism This theory was founded by Watson and Skinner. Behaviorism has to do with behaviors that are acquired threw conditioning. There are two types of conditioning operant conditioning and classical conditioning. Operant conditioning is learning certain behaviors threw rewards and punishment. Classical conditioning has to do with behaviors learned threw a stimulus to acquire a response. One way to manage anxiety or phobia issues is threw systematic desensitization therapy.

Sub disciplines and Subtopics applied in societyThese disciplines and subtopics can be applied in school to help teachers understand certain behaviors, what causes certain behaviors and how behaviors are learned. For instance a child with ADHD may not be able to concentrate due to his or her setting or maybe over stimulated. These different areas within psychology can help teachers understand where, who, how and why certain behaviors may occur, on a psychosocial and psychological, neurological level. Therefore, making it possible to teach the child and parent ways to cope and learn techniques to deal with the present and future issues. My Theoretical Perspective For years, I have been interested in how the mind works and why certain behaviors occur.

Threw my years of attending college-studying psychology it has opened a whole new perspective for me. My perspective use to be that bad people do bad things, not realizing the true elements that play a role in who we are and why we are the way we are, or do the things we do. I have realized that no one person is the same and their reasoning for their actions are none the same as well. That elements such as environment, mind set, internal locus , external locus, self worth, self esteem, perception, cognition, genetics, past experiences, present experiences, needs, conditioning, internal development, neuroscience and ect. These are all important factors that help us develop into who we are and how we act within our life span development.

My Contribution Someday I wish to become a youth care counselor and help abused, and emotional disturbed children or spouses. Additionally, let them know that there are people that he or she can trust can turn too. Also help them with techniques to cope with their emotions and maladaptive behaviors, but also help them stay motivated to change their lives for the better and have a better quality of living. Conclusion There are various factors and view points and theories that play a crucial role in the field of psychology. They have similarities and differences but no one defines the same.

The important elements within psychology can be useful and implemented within real life situations to help assess and diagnose and treat individuals. Additionally, this information can also be useful within the wok environment and school environment.
