Communication plays a very big role in the work force, whether you are a secretary, manager, CEO, or director of a company. You will always have to use communication as a skill.

Everyone has to communicate in some kind of way to accomplish projects, or make a profit. The key to being very successful though is to have very good communication skills. To make sure you are getting your point across. That is why you need to know how to communicate an effective message, one that is clear, complete, and correct, saves time, and builds goodwill.

Communication is the top key to getting jobs accomplished on time and without losing money. In my line of work communication is a huge key. I handle housing and recruiting station leases for the military. I have to negotiate with lessors and try to get them to except a Government lease. I also have to negotiate a rental price.

I have to communicate with contractors if the space needs to be built out. That is why communication is such an important part of my job.The smallest miscommunication error can cost thousands of dollars. The lessors and contractors are usually not familiar with a Government lease. It is important that we have good communication skills to make them feel comfortable with us.

We must be knowledgeable and confident about our lease or else they seem skeptical to take it. If we don’t know what we are talking about then how can we accept them to make a deal with us? We also write many emails, memos, and letters. Many of these memos and letters are asking the lessors to sign documents so it’s important that they have all the information they are going to have questions about, a request for them to sign the paper work, but the paper work must also persuade the lessor that it’s in their best interest to accept and sign the document all with building goodwill. More trends for communication have been apparent in the past few years.

These would include emails, electronic documents, and text messages. In my line of work we use these three the most. They are fast and you don’t have to wait on the mail. When we have a lessor signing a lease we normally ask them for their email so we can send it electronically instead of sending it off in the mail and wait for them to mail it back.

It is the most effective way. It is fast, cost less, and saves everyone’s time. We still use our fax machine often. Not everyone is computer savvy so if a lessor doesn’t have an email we will ask if they have a fax so we can fax them the lease.

If they don’t have a fax or email we will send it by mail. Text messaging has become a big part between employees. When in meetings or out in the field we will text one another if we don’t have our blackberries with us for accessing email. All these tolls are a huge help with cutting cost and communicating effectively. The messages that result from these types of communication are good.

When we communicate effectively we get good customer reviews and more lessors willing to work with us because they know we are informative. The hardest thing to do is work with someone who will not answer your questions or someone you don’t understand. It is not only frustrating but you don’t get anything accomplished because of lack of communication.Communications is a big role in my line of work. It can make or break a lease.

If we communicate effectively and let our lessors know we are willing to answer any questions and are open to working with them then more than likely we will get their business. We will also earn a good reputation from word of mouth. Communication is also important because lack of it can cost money. Money is what makes business work so if you want to make a profit or get your money’s worth then you better learn how to communicate not only with your customers but also with your employees.
