The documentary film, China in Revolution gives an impression of how the communism ideology being imparted by a dictator leader personified by Mao Zedong.
It was Mao’s vision of a communism government through Cultural Revolution emphasizing revolution through radical means. Mao has a charismatic character that gains the sympathy of every Chinese citizen most especially giving the peasants its importance in order to have an agricultural gain later by the state.China’s liberation from the old government lead by Mao was considered by Chinese as revolution for the old government was considered as corrupt and incompetent and it was through Mao that citizens experience equality particularly with treatment towards women. As narrated in the documentary film, women were considered second class citizens before liberation; women had no rights but only to be submissive to the father before marriage, submissive to husband after marriage and submissive to son when the husband died. So it was then that Mao liberated them from such state giving women equal rights to men.
The “red book”, a small sized pocketbook authored by Mao that consists of essays and quotations were distributed to the whole army, to the workers and to universities or schools give an impression that Mao develops a good strategy to gain the trust of the young generation which gave an outcome of civil war in the country. As narrated in the documentary film, the year 1967 was the year of chaos and turmoil for the country which Mao himself could not even control.On the other hand, Mao’s leadership may have also gain good points because through him Chinese people were cooperative and united to achieve a certain cause of action but in a way, it was somehow abused. Mao’s objective could have been for the good of all Chinese people but in the long run it turn out to be a dictator’s mandate where almost all citizens were dictated on what to do for the good of the country even if it worsened the condition of the people most especially the young generation who were educated to love the Communist Party, love the country and love the leaders of the Communist Party.
There was a movie film entitled Absolute Power and there was a catching line that states, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Indeed it is true to Mao Zedong where he gained absolute power because the Chinese people believed that Mao was the one who liberated them from the old government and treated him as their hero. Through that absolute power given to him by the people, Mao corrupted his absolute power absolutely which was later on described as Mao’s cult.The documentary film has shown insights for the viewers to learn the advantages and disadvantages of a socialist/communist republic because somehow it gives also the China government the experience in order to gain the success and improvement of what China is today. Mao Zedong has given the Chinese people the second liberation through his death because that leads to their realization that the country has to unite once more and to move on for the great China.
