The fact is only a person with great humility has the capability to be a good leader. Why? Because a good leader does not dwell on himself and his accomplishments. A good leader is able to relate well and empathize with people. The best example of a man with great humility is Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.
He was a timid man who seemed to have but little to say, according to his law partner John T. Stuart, a leading member of the US legislature in 1834 (The Columbia Encyclopedia, 2004).He came from humble beginnings and the American people knew very little about him when he became President in 1861. During the Civil War, however, Lincoln led the country through the greatest crisis in US history.
He helped end slavery and worked to keep the American Union from splitting during the war. He was elected twice as President of the United States but his second term was cut short by his assassination in 1865. His accomplishments made many people regard him as the greatest person in the history of the United States.Being a good leader means being selflessly dedicated to whatever people need and addressing their concerns with utmost haste and genuine concern. “It’s not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude” are famous words from the dean of motivational and inspirational speakers Zig Ziglar (Khurana, S.
, 2006). These words not only rhyme, they make sense. An intelligent person cannot achieve much with a wrong attitude. Arrogance is such an unnecessary waste of talent and energy.
Humility, on the other hand, makes a leader focus more on the goals without consideration for ego gratification.
