This paper is about adult learning theories. The learning theory andragogy was discussed in detail. Also, the author talked about how people structure their own learning theories. What typical views and reports for adult learning were conversed there were also views and discussions from the view of adult learner. Article stated the pressure and concerns of students who go back to school as an adult years later in comparison to going straight out of high school.

In the 1950’s and 1960’s organizational development practitioners composed the term andragogy (Kenner, Weinerman, 2011).This was used to help them recognize needs and visage of this distinct learning population. It was also used to separate adult learning theories from traditional pedagogy. Knowles identified four principles that characterize the adult learner. The four characteristics are the as follows: First, they are self-directed, responsible for their actions, and they do not like for information to be randomly placed on them.

Second, they have a great depth of experience, which serves as a vital component in the foundation of their identity.Third, they are ready to learn, come back voluntary and are eager to get involved in the learning process. Fourth, they are task motivated and come back goal oriented. Most are said to have enriching experience and practical knowledge upon returning to school. Integration back into an educational environment is very challenging and can be a major issue for some adult students who come back years later.

Developmental instructors must understand the background of adult students and create a curriculum to their specific needs.Repetition is very helpful in adult learning, in the sense that students like myself better understand and remember things the more they are discussed or viewed. The adult learning will better achieve their goal with a set plan on how to go over and do their assignments and so forth. " Journal of College Reading and Learning 41. 2 (2011) the authors talked from the view of an adult student.The student stated to begin with that they felt like they were reading psychology text and did not really understand it. Another point that was being stated was that students will try to do their best. The student compared their high school experience and the methods of knowing what was required of them at certain times.

The author stated that when returning to school,” These classes were interesting to me because I could immediately apply what I had learned in class to my daily job responsibility (Jackson, 2009) Looking at learning theories through two different views was interesting.In the article, Revisiting Adult Learning Theory through the Lens of an Adult Learner, it was the basic guidelines and idea of adult learning theories. In the article, Revisiting Adult Learning Theory through the Lens of an Adult Learner, the article was written from the view of an adult student and covered what some of the first article had addressed. Author discussed about how some adult learners make their own learning theories.

Also, saw some of the pressures that adult students can be faced with and they were addressed in the article.It was about how some adult learners make their own learning theories some of the pressures addressed in the article. Understanding the andragogy learning theory helps students and teachers.It aids in illuminating the problem areas that students might be facing. Students like me who have had a big gap between high school or getting their G. E. D.

and now in the process of furthering their education, must be eager to learn and play a role in the class. It can be a bit challenging at times to follow the required assignments when the element is foreign to the students. A key point in the learning process is repetition. Adult learners can relate to the author in this article on how things seemed above and beyond what could be comprehend.Later on as time progressed was able to conceive how the material being taught applied in the real world and the connection. Getting more familiar with the classes and learning environment will make it a smoother transition.

Everyday life has helped in the role of knowledge, which would not have been there if one came straight from high school. The smoothness of the transition really depends on the student and how much effort they are willing to put forth. It can be difficult to adjust because of everyday life and family, which means that adult students have to be more focused and determined.ALT Page 5 Both articles really tie in hand in hand. Both the theories and actually being an adult student playing key parts in the adult learning experience. With proper learning theories the understanding and focus of the student and teacher will be addressed.

Then, the ability for the student to apply what they are learning and comprehend it will come easily. There were many valuable points in both sections. Personal experience has given me the ability to relate to the people in both of the articles. It has been challenging at times to be an adult student.Life sometimes makes things more challenging. But, like what was discussed in the articles, being an adult learner and an online student you have to be very self-disciplined.

This is where plans and guidelines will help tremendously. Sometimes things happen that jeopardize or prevent you from completing what you had intended to accomplish, but you should not feel like a failure due to this. This is always another chance to complete your goal. Adult students can have more difficulties than a typical students.

Typical student meaning one who transitioned from high school to college without a gap or major life changes. It is a good idea for adult students to come back to school because they want to. They have to be more determined than normal students, since they are more prone to failure due to life. Life meaning the following: work, spouses, kids, family issues, finances, stress, and time just to name a few. Application of what is learned is a great tool to use and be successful. Teachers and peers will help in the process of learning and to get better understanding of subjects or assignments.
