The world is fast becoming a borderless place. Cultures, races, beliefs and ideologies are blend together and interact because of the growing advances in communications. In order to succeed in this world, one needs to be able to adapt to the various cultural differences as well as be able to maintain a certain sense of individual identity. This is why I firmly believe that (name of University) is the perfect place for me.
In order to get ahead in this world, it is important to have a good education. Coming from a small town in Morocco, many have always felt that I would not have a chance in this world. Since coming to America, however, I have realized that I can be so much more in life than just what other people say I can be.With the help of a good education, I know that I can do so much to contribute to this country and to my own country as well.
I have not received many opportunities in life but I am certain that I will make the best of all of them if given the opportunity.I have come to a point in life that many people have not. I have made a firm decision to recommit myself to pursuing my dreams. While there are those who believe that with an ounce of luck and a ton of persistence anything can be accomplished, I believe that there is no reason to expend so much energy and rely on luck.I believe in taking hold of my destiny and carving out a future for myself based on the decisions that I make in life. Life is simply too short and too precious to be left to luck alone.
It is because of this that I have decided to pursue the PHD program in Chemistry at Old Dominion University.During my tenure at Old Dominion University, I have continually proven my academic excellence by maintaining a 3.4 GPA average. My commitment to academic excellence is reflected in my college grades as I was the first in my major to earn honors in Science and Techniques at the Cadi Ayad University.
It was also during this time that I completed my dissertation on Influence of the Particle Size Distribution on the Quality of Thermosetting Decorative Powder Coating. I am currently teaching at Old Dominion University and am handling Chemistry 101, 102, 115, 312 and 314.It is my experience in this field which has prompted me to pursue a PHD in Chemistry because I firmly believe that I can make significant contributions in this field. My work with Dr. Bayse was also extremely helpful and enlightening as it was during this time that I learned major organic synthesis techniques.Perhaps the main experience which has motivated me is my work experience with the Hatcher Group.
Starting on spring of 2008, I will be part of the Hatcher Group and will be devoting my time on research on the conversion Algal biomass to fuel (biodiesel) using advanced analytical techniques.Dr Hatcher is one of the best professors in this field and I believe that working under him will grant me the valuable experiences that I need in order to further my own research. I believe that this is a good way of preparing for my PHD and also to follow my interests in Analytical Chemistry. These experiences have steeled my resolve and driven me to try to become, if the fates permit, one of the experts in this field. While I personally believe that “there is no such thing as a free lunch” and that everything a person has in life must come from hard work and perseverance, I also believe in charity.
I believe in helping others who do not have much in life.I believe in helping people regardless of their nation, race or creed. I believe in being a better person so I can best help myself and others around me. I strongly feel that my time of being an object at rest has gone on long enough and that it is now time for me to move forward to achieve my dreams.
For this reason, I feel that (name of university) is the best place for me to turn these beliefs into realities.
