Knowing hat Is going on around us and creating ways to effectively live symbiotically with our natural environment (as much as we can) Is the answer to preserving our home.
Modern technology has put a huge strain on our natural resources and environment, but that is only due to human demand. Due to our constant need for fossil fuels, our emissions destroying our atmosphere are through the roof. Burning gasoline creates carbon dioxide which Is a greenhouse gas linked to global warming on a large scale. According to US Department of Energy, Americans used more than 350 million loons of gasoline per day, in 2013.To put that into perspective, burning one gallon of gasoline produces more than 19 pounds of carbon dioxide now think about how many miles you drive to and from work In one day and multiply that by the 7 billion people in the world Although technology, as a whole, seems to be tearing apart our environment on a global scale some technology has been created to answer societies need for power and energy while maintaining a very small, if not non-existent, emissions footprint.
Harnessing power from the wind Is one of the cleanest and most sustainable ways to generate electricity as It produces no toxic pollution or global warming emissions.Wind is also abundant, inexhaustible, and affordable, which makes it a viable and large-scale alternative to fossil fuels (Environmental Impacts of Renewable Energy Technologies). Since this technology simply uses the wind to create energy there arena any emissions or negative Impact on the environment. Another great example, that I find is continually growing in popularity, is solar power.
This technology uses solar cells to trap energy from the suns light to power our moms, businesses and even automobiles.Another statement from the union for Concerned Scientists explained that the energy we can obtain from the sun Is enormous stating that only 20 days of sunshine equals the amount of coal, oil and natural gas reserve we have on the planet I see this technology popping up all around me. The company I work for has switched to partial solar power, the college across the street from my apartment just undertook a major project to Install solar panels on all parking deck roofs and I continually see businesses In this area arching land to install solar panels farms.Harnessing wind and solar energy are great ways technology is creating solutions to use clean, sustainable energy sources rather than burning fossil fuels that pollute our air and water, threaten our public health, and contribute to global warming Environmental sustainability should be studied and researched, as that is the only way we can preserve our natural 1 OFF world for our current generation. Generally I do feel that the majority of humans do not put environmental sustainability on the top of their to do list, simply because we vive our lives lazily and selfishly.
We waste, do not recycle and overuse fossil fuels because it is easy we do not go out of our way to protect something that is rapidly changing in front of our eyes. In the United States, the first establishment of a national policy for environmental sustainability came in 1969 with the passage of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEAP) whose purpose was to foster and promote the general welfare, to create and maintain conditions under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony and fulfill the social, economic and other acquirement of present and future generations (History of Sustainability).I was actually surprised to learn that less than 50 years ago was the first time we (the US) said enough is enough we must find a way to live in harmony with the world around us Nixon proposed the creation of the EPA in 1970 which finally put law into effect to protect the environment. As I noted above the constant growth in the human population is what is mainly destroying our environment on a global scale.
We are constantly destroying ecosystems simply to build more houses and businesses and earning apart our atmosphere by the use of fossil fuels.
