A major similarity between the two is love; which attracts and speaks to people all around the world. Although they are spoken in different ways, they both have the idea of making love. Whether it be expressing it to a certain person or having and sharing love. The angles in the sculptures are similar in how each has negative space and are very open, and the angles have a different representation from every side (Peterson 10-8-12). You can notice something different on each side. The titles of each figure are comparable, showing affection involves a kiss and affection is usually viewing love.
Both are presenting something that everyone understands and can relate to and that would be love. “LOVE” and “The Kiss” show many differences. “The Kiss” is showing more of a personal emotional love towards two people and viewing it in a more sexual way, it’s easier to find yourself somewhere in the piece, while “LOVE” is representing a general meaning; love is for everyone. “The Kiss” represents lust more than love, the hand placement and the rock platform shows that lust is elevated and present, where as “LOVE” is more a controlled thought. The two sculptures are both made out of different material. The Kiss” is made out of marble which is thought to be hard to break and cold. This could mean that the two people are inseparable but it’s more of lust their holding onto not love. The “LOVE” sculpture is made of steel, and each letter is connected to one another (Peterson 10-8-12). This could be thought to resemble that love cannot be separated and once you have felt it, it’s always there. This piece is also an abstract form of art and more modern the color is red and has a feeling of happiness and joy and you have the urge to feel love just by seeing it so large and up front. LOVE” has always been placed out in the open demanding attention from a lot of people to see. “The Kiss” is more of a classic form of art and has been placed in more private areas. Although it has a distressing grey color “The Kiss” has more depth; the feeling of intimacy is strong and makes a statement. There are both similarities and differences in “The Kiss” and “LOVE”. The emotion and meaning behind both are incredible, it shows and understands the meanings of love, lust, joy, and intimacy. Love can either be spelt out or expressed by action and is what both pieces show.
Love can be interrupted in many ways, but there always has to be a kiss in love. Works Cited 1. ) "Love | Indianapolis Museum of Art. " Love | Indianapolis Museum of Art. N. p. , n. d.
