On July 16, 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped at Alamogordo. Ever since that day of testing warfare has never been the same. The threat of unimaginable power destroying whole cities has brought countries to their knees. Demonstrated by the fateful explosion of the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki.Truman had a choice, he had to decide whether to invade the island of kyushu, which could cost hundreds of thousands, even a million American lives or use the atomic bomb brought about by the Manhattan Project in 1943. His choice is no less obveous today then it was when he made the decision.
The radiation still lingers in the shadows of the city.
Hiroshima was the first city to experience the power equivalent to 20,000 tons of TNT. The American B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped the uranium atomic bomb called little boy on Aug. 6, 1945.
If his first decision was not enough he also decided to bomb Nagasaki. On Aug. 9, 1945 the second bomb was dropped and its nickname was fat boy, and was made of plutonium. Hastily after the second city was plummeted Japan surrendered unconditionally and the war was over. If not for president Tremens rash and quick decisions the war could have lasted for ten years or more. The Japanese casualties were very high they lost 240,000 civilians.
The ironic story behind that is Truman told his generals not to target civilians, yet that is all that died. Words
