Lord of The Flies – Chapter Summaries

- Plan crashes, Ralph and Piggy meet, find conch, blow it, survivors come, Jack and choir are last - Already Jack and others mock Piggy - Ralph gets picked as leader over Jack - Choir and Jack go to explore Island, grow closer- Jack can't kill pig but swear will next time

- Ralph declares there will be hunters and that whoever has the conch will speak and everyone else is silent - First mention of the beast from the boy with the mulberry gave birth mark (snake)- Ralph tells boys to make a signal fire - Fire spreads and lights island trees on fire - Boy with mulberry tattoo disappears

- Ralph and Simon work on huts that keep falling cause no other boys help - Mention of the younger boys nightmares and fears of beast - Jacks obsession with hunting is mentioned - Ralph and Jack begin disagreeing and start of their rivalry - Simon finds his little jungle glade

- the younger boys have nightmares more soften and worse - The younger boys and older boys lives are separated and some of the older torment them (roger, Maurice, sand castle) - Roger tosses stones around boy - Ralph and piggy see ship but Jack and his hunters let the signal fire out - Hunters caught pig - Jack slaps piggy and breaks glasses - Jack and Ralph's rivalry grows

- Ralph calls a meeting - At the meeting he tries to get all the boys in line again and sooth fears of beast - Younger boys still scared of beast, per avail mentions might come out ocean - Jack declares he and hunters will kill it, many boys follow (Ralph, Simon and piggy are left)

- fighter planes and explosions in the sky- Sam and Eric let fire out - Dead parachutist falls from sky and they confuse it as the beast - Ralph calls meeting where Sam and Eric talk about the beast, start expedition (no piggy or littluns)- Jacks leads search party to area never seen- Boys annoyed with Ralph cause they wanna play but he says no

- Boys are on the mountain eating and Ralph is upset, Simon reassures he will make it home - Ralph's first hunt and he likes the feeling - Start playing hunting game with Robert, almost kill him - Simon goes to tell piggy and kids they will be back tomorrow - Jack challenges Ralph to go up mountain at night, roger joins, see beast (dead parachute guy)

- Jack blows conch to call meeting about beast, calls Ralph coward but boys won't vote him out - Jack storms away, at night some boys sneak off to join - Make new signal fire on the beach - Jack makes himself chief of new tribe, hunt, Ralph shoves stick up sows butt, leave head as beast offering - Jack and tribe steal fire - Simon sees lord of the flies and faints

- Siman wakes, has nose bleed, discovers the beast is just parachutist, goes to tell boys this at jacks feast - Ralph + piggy go to feast to try to make peace, jack is painted like savage, boys wait on him, more boys join - Boys chant and dance to get rid of rain, Piggy and Ralph join on side - Simon comes out of forest, boys don't recognize him, kill him, body washed away by sea - Dead parachutist falls onto beach from mountain

- Ralph and piggy realize they took part in simons murder - Only Ralph, piggy, some littluns and SameandEric left - Jack rules in Castle Rock, beats people for no reason, warns them of Ralph, believe Simon was beast still - Even older boys have nightmares and Ralphs camp - Jack and tribe attack Ralph and his group, steal Piggys glasses

- Ralph, piggy, Sam and Eric go to castle rock to try to talk sense into Jack, get glasses back - Boys throw stones at them, Jack refuses to give glasses and lunges at Ralph - Jack orders hunters to capture Sam and Eric - Ralph lunges this time and they fight again - Roger pushes massive rock that kills piggy and destroys conch, Jack and tribe start throwing spears at Ralph who flees - Jack and tirbe torture Sam and Eric into submission

- Ralph realizes there is no sense of civilization on the island anymore - Finds Lord of The Flies, breaks skull, uses spear as weapon - Ralph goes to Castle Rock and talks to Sam and Eric, tell him how Jack plans to kill him - Ralph hides in thicket that the Tribe can't break with boulder, fends them off when they try to fight in, Jack smokes him out by lighting forest on fire - Ralph keeps running, collapses on beach in exhaustion - Naval officer rescues them
