My background as an immigrant was good and has greatly helped me to cooperate with my colleagues excellently especially at the institution and with my friends back at the estate. As an immigrant, I have heard a tough time and a difficult situation that has helped me to understand all the difficulty situations and problems of other people in the world. Therefore, no matter what I go through or what we go through in the institution, I am always in a position to with stand and move on without any problems.
This is because through immigration as a young child, I grew up familiar with the cultural competency and I am now able to leave anywhere as a third culture kid. Through this difficulty times, I was able to learn a set of congruent behaviors, policies that come together as an agency or system and attitude to work efficiently cross-culturally. Therefore, coping with the situations and culture in this country was a bit difficulty but learning and understanding different languages was even harder. However, due to my practice of a set of behaviors, policies and attitudes, I was able to master at least three languages.
Valuing other people’s culture and principle also played a vital role in my process of learning these languages. Besides, through the harsh conditions I underwent during my early life as a refugee, I was able to learn the essence of patience because sometimes we were promised nice things and good life that we could wait for long without seeing them. Therefore, I learned how to control my stress when in difficult times, control my anger and embrace any challenge that come my side. This means that I was able to learn all about cultural competency where I acquired a good level of awareness, knowledge and skills of tackling different cultural and life issues. Through the cultural competency, I am now able to interact well with my fellow peers, share happiness, smile and show positive energy in everything we plan as a group despite my distinction in culture. I also learned how to make people feel good about themselves and appreciate each other.
Actually, the idea behind this issue is that I learned to appreciate people and what they do and that is what makes culture and cultural competency. Therefore, if a person acquires good virtual values such as awareness, positive attitude towards other people and knowledge of social life, he or she will be in a good position to appreciate and leave with people of different cultures, social life and economics effectively. It is important to recognize that it takes a long period of time in order to acquire cultural competence.
