" Teams are group of two or more people who interact and influence each other, are mutually accountable for achieving common goals associated with organizational objectives, and perceive themselves as a social entity within an organization"(McShane & Von Glinow, 2010, p. 234). Teams are needed for providing a service or making an important decision.Different organization judges the effectiveness of team through accomplishing the tasks, satisfying its members and maintaining team survival. According to McShane & Von Glinow the team effectiveness model consist of Organizational and Team environment, Team design, Team Process and Team Effectiveness ( p.

239, 2010). In the team design, the elements that are needed are task characteristics, team size and team composition. Team works best when work is very complex and to accomplish the task team have to be highly interdependent with each other.For a team to be effective the members of the team must have more than technical skills and all the work should be performed in a team environment. According to McShane& VonGlinow the characteristics of effective team are cooperating, coordinating, communicating, comforting, and conflict resolving( 2010, p.

243). In my organization we have developed a discharge team where different department leaders coordinate, communicate with each other to make the discharge transition easy for the patient and if there is any conflict that is resolved immediately.A survey is conducted with the patient to see the effectiveness of this process. As stated by McShane and Von Glinow team is developed through stages of forming, storming, norming, performing and eventually adjourning. Forming is the first stage of team development in which members learn about each other and evaluate the benefits of continued membership. In storming stage there is interpersonal conflict as members compete for various team roles.

In norming stage there is a real sense of cohesion among team members and a team based mental model is developed. Cohesion increases team performance when team performance are congruent with organization goals. In the performing stage members have learned to efficiently coordinate and resolve conflicts. In adjourning stage team members shift their attention away from task orientation to a relationship focus( p. 246, 2010).

Team can be developed well through team building and develops norms to regulate and guide team behavior.
