The United States Army is one of the main factors that allows America to be a free and democratic country. The Army defends, protects, and honors the United States of America. Ever since I was a young boy, I saw greatness in the United States Army and hoped to one day be a part of it. I always envisioned myself in a leadership position and when I decided to join the Army, I knew being an officer was for me.

To me, being an officer in the U. S. Army is a career unlike any other. There are many opportunities as an officer in the Army to advance, further education, and grow as a person.

The army allows you to switch your MOS and attend more training to further education or to change careers completely which is something that really appeals to me. An officer is the army is looked up to and highly regarded, but it doesn’t come easy. To become an Army officer, it takes time, training, education, and a lot of work. This past year and a half that I have been in the United States Army as an enlisted solider, I have seen huge changes in myself. I am more confident, helpful, athletic, and respectful than I was before I joined the Army.

I am quicker with making decisions, I’m stronger, and more goal-oriented, and I owe those changes to my time spent at Basic training and drill each month. The Army has made me a more assertive person and has helped me to focus on my goals. I want to be an officer in the United States Army because I want to lead. Officers need strong virtues and morals including integrity, hard work, pride, respect, honor, and dignity. These traits will allow me to effectively lead, direct, and better my soliders.

I enjoy working in team settings and throughout my educational and athletic experiences; I have always been a leader in these settings. My innovative ideas, ability to multi-task, and desire to see everyone succeed are things that set me apart from an enlisted solider, and will make me an ideal officer. An officer, in my opinion, needs to be team oriented while also having the ability to delegate responsibilities and tasks to his soldiers. Officers are highly regarded, and I want to be an officer for that reason.

I know I can have positive influences on my soliders and help them discover their strengths and talents. I want to be an officer because I know I can effectively lead a platoon, while also guiding each individual solider. An officer needs to be able to put the platoon above the individual and that is something I have learned through sports. The success of the team depends on the success of each individual and I feel that I could bring out each person’s strengths so that the platoon can succeed. The Army is a family system. When you’re overseas, all you have is your platoon and your sergeants and you have to rely on each other for everything.

I want to be an officer because I want my platoon and my soliders to encompass a family system. I want them to be able to trust me and each other, especially when there is no one else to turn to.It is an officer’s responsibility to pull everyone together especially when we are not at home. An officer needs to keep the morale high and ensure that everyone is working together to achieve the task at hand.

I believe those are things I can do well. I am a positive and upbeat person, but I have gone through difficulties in life like everyone has. I always believe that if you stay positive, things will get better. I feel that positivity is an important characteristic for an officer. An officer has to keep their soliders motivated, upbeat and willing to work hard. The army has allowed me to learn new and better ways of leading.

I am faced with outstanding leaders every day in the Army and they have greatly influenced my own leadership abilities. I want to be an officer because I want to influence others and continue to gain leadership experience. I hope to be able to impact soliders like my Sergeants have impacted me. I believe that officer’s should be role models for their platoon. I want to be an officer because I want to have a positive impact on my soliders, and help them achieve their goals.

I feel that I will be a great role model for my platoon because I am dedicated, hard working, and relentless.Officers are responsible to lead and protect the people under them. They must have courage, strength, leadership, integrity, and respect. An officer in the Army needs to be able to think fast and make decisions for an entire platoon of soliders.

Another important responsibility of an officer is to be able to make operation orders quickly and effectively. This is necessary to be able to complete the mission successfully and on time. I feel that although this is a difficult task for me right now, I am gaining a lot of experience writing them through officer candidate school and it something that I will continue to improve upon.An important part of being an officer is being able to give constructive evaluations of your soldiers so they can continue to improve themselves and help make the platoon better. These evaluations are important to to help each soldier understand what they are doing well and what they need to improve upon so they can further their career in the Army.

I feel that I will excel at this because I am used to giving constructive feedback at my current and previous jobs. I also want to help my soliders succeed so I feel that I will take the extra time to make their evaluations very specific.Another important part of being an officer is to handle the administrative work so that the platoon gets all of the information and supplies that they need. Especially overseas, getting the necessary information and supplies is crucial to completing the task. I feel that my excellent organization and ability to multi-task will allow me to successful complete these tasks and make sure that the platoon gets what they need to complete the mission. On top of this, an officer needs to be able to distrubute the information effectively so that every solider knows what his specific task is towards completeing the mission.

I feel that I will complete this task successfully because of my work experience in law enforcement. I know how important it is for everyone to be on the same page and know their assignment. Problem solving is something that an officer will do almost every day in the Army. They need to be able to make quick decisions to overcome various obstacles, and think and act quickly and efficiently.

Problem solving is one of my strengths. I have gained proficiency in problem solving through my education, employment, and previous life experiences. I feel that my four-year college education has taught me new strategies to overcome obstacles. An officer’s job is to uphold and represent the Army values.

They need to encompass the army values so they can set an example for their platoon. I feel that I truly encompass these values and portray them in every day. I show respect by addressing adults as sir or mam, I show integrity through my honest and genuine actions and my strong moral belief syste, I show honor through my dedication and willingness to serve my country, I show loyalty by always being faithful in everything I do. I feel that I truly encompass the Army values and will use them to make myself a better leader.

My passion to lead and teach others, defend our country, positively impact other people are the main reasons I want to be an officer in the United States Army. I want to make a difference.
