The tragic play written by William Shakespeare shows us what could happen if you do not follow your own conscience and you rely on prophecies. Macbeth begins the play as a strong loyal character, who is known for his courage and leadership in wars, and admired by many. Macbeth’s ambition got ahead of him, and being thane of Cawdor and Glamis wasn’t enough for Macbeth and his ambition for power affects his life, and eventually leads him to his demise. Lady Macbeth and the three witches were also a part of the fall of Macbeth. The three witches and their Prophecies was the main reason for Macbeth’s actions.
Without the three witches, Macbeth would have never had the thought to kill Duncan, because he was told his fate that he would be king. After being given the thane of Glamis by King Duncan, and happy with his position, the three witches tell him, “hail to thee, thane of Cawdor, thou shalt be king hereafter. ” After hearing what the witches had told him, Duncan had named Macbeth Thane of Cawdor as well.Macbeth then wonders if the rest of the prophecies will come true. This brings Macbeths ambitions up, and he is willing to do anything to be king.
The witches could be considered as evil because they knew the trouble they were going to cause with Macbeth. By the witches telling Macbeth about his prophecies of being king, he straight away thinks of killing Duncan, and coincidently this leads him to his death. The influence of Macbeth’s wife, Lady Macbeth’s may be over exaggerated, but still influences him to kill Duncan to become king.Lady Macbeth convinces and manipulates Macbeth into doing something that he doesn’t want to do, killing Duncan. Macbeth had already had a good relationship with Duncan, he respected him and thought highly of him.
Duncan was the one that made Macbeth King, so it was out of the ordinary to kill Duncan, though it was a good plan, because no one would have expected it. Lady Macbeth questions Macbeth’s manly hood, an insults him, she tells him that she would “bash the brains out” of her newborn baby, to manipulate him.I believe that Lady Macbeth is doing all of this because she wants to be the Queen, she is greedy and wants to have power! Lady Macbeth is responsible for her own actions, and her actions of her telling Macbeth to kill Duncan was one of the main reasons that she is to blame. Without Lady Macbeth, Macbeth wouldn’t have killed Duncan and there wouldn’t have been a tragedy. Macbeth himself is also to blame for the tragedy of his death.
Without Macbeth being so ambitious to be king and have power, the play wouldn’t have turned out as it did.Macbeth firstly didn’t want to kill Duncan and was having second thoughts “proceed no further in this business”, though Lady Macbeth’s techniques to persuade Macbeth got the better of him, as well as Macbeths Ambition to become king. Macbeth got a head of himself, he was narrow sighted and turned evil. Macbeth tries to do his best to make Lady Macbeth happy, to show that he truly loves her, and if that is murdering Duncan, he would do it. Macbeth is for blame for what happens after he kills Duncan, with him seeing Banquo’s ghost and acting in a unstable manner, it brought great suspicion towards him.Macbeth’s ambition and conscience took the play as it did, his own actions brought his own death.
In conclusion the persuasion of Lady Macbeth convincing Macbeth, and the three witches giving Macbeth the prophecies and giving him the idea to become king and the actions Macbeth took killing the king and giving orders to kill people. The tragedy would have never happened. All three of them are to blame. All three of the characters lead to the tragedy that the play took.
