Tesco is a global organisation which operates in 12 countries around the world, Tesco operate in the private sector. The organisation has over 500, 0000 people up to date working for them over these 12 countries obviously an organisation of the sort is going to have multiple branches spread out in each of the country they operate in.The graph above is a store organisational chart and refers to how Tesco stores are organised in a country and the different level title within the organisational structure.
However, on a global scale, the business Tesco has a much higher and wider spread organisational chart.Firstly, in charge of Tesco PLC there will be people at the HQ (headquarter) they are the directors who make the fundamental decision of the global organisation, at the top of them is the Chairman who is aided by the other directors in his task. After the chairman, we have the CEO which is supported in his task by company secretary Jonathan L LloydIn turn the directors make decisions and run the countries operations. For example, at the head of Tesco PLC UK is the geographical area manager Chris Bush, who is part of the HQ board of directors. He has underneath him the area mangers like north of England for example. These area managers then have the regional managers underneath them e.
g. north Yorkshire. From this we finally have the store managers, the Bradford foster square is an example. The store’s manager has three lines of control which are the food trainer manager, the non-food trainer manager and personal manager.
As we can see on the store structure above, it is more of a product based structure because it does not have marketing or financial department since it is all dealt with at the HQ. Food, electrical products, fresh products and clothing products are the different type of product with this product based chart. At Tesco, the corporate aims are set by the chairman at the Headquarter; the chairman cannot make these decisions on his own so he is helped by his colleges (the other directors). From the board of directors, theses Aims are then passed down to the CEOs who also passes them down to geographical area manager after they are dealt with. From there the aims are passed down to area managers. Finally, we have the store managers who ho receive these aims and put them into practice.
