“You know yourself” goes the word of Socrates. Right from my childhood, I recognized myself having a great entice towards Mathematics, for its versatile and valuable services to the mankind. Throughout my academic career I have been among the top ranking students in the class for which I was awarded the “Most outstanding Student” for excellent performance.
I secured the 3rd rank in my district in the Secondary School Examination (Madhyamik) and ranked in top 0.5% among 0.25 million candidates who had appeared in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Joint Entrance Examination and was also selected for the 2nd round interviews for the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.My Engineering degree has given a strong foundation to my analytical skills since Electronics engineering involves a lot complex and intricate calculations and the application of basic math skills. Over the past three years, I found myself working with the state-of-the-art technology here at IIT Kharagpur, which gave me a broad aspect of the modern technology. At the end of my junior year I got selected for an Internship at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, where I worked on a project for the IREQ ("Institut de recherche en électricité du Québec", Quebec Electricity Research Institute) under prof.
Cetin Aktik. The project involved in designing a magnetic chip which would measure the magnetic loss in between the coils of an electromagnet. I worked there with a wide variety of people with different culture and perspectives.I have pursued a variety of extra-curricular activities as well.
I served as the member of my hostel fine-arts team. Simultaneously I’m also a member of SPECTRA, the fine-arts society of IIT Kharagpur. I have also been a part of making the sets and controlling lights in inter-hostel Bengali and Hindi Dramatics competitions. In addition I was a member of the Gopali Youth Welfare Society aimed at ensuring socio-economic welfare for underprivileged and weaker sections of the society at Gopali, a village near IIT Kharagpur.
I am also a volunteer of the Study Program under National Service Scheme. We worked as a group in teaching poor underprivileged aspirants of JEE. Main focus of our work was to clear the concepts of the students and give them a basic idea and pattern of study they should pursue in order to crack the JEE. These experiences have contributed to an all-round growth and taught me vital organizational and time management skills which I think are essential in doing management studies.
Last but not the least I wish to go for a management career because it advances one's career and increases marketability when combined with graduation. Further major in MBA helps one to know the intricacies of planning, goal-setting and inter-personal skills which is very much required in corporate world. I want to achieve the highest educational standards, but at the same time want to contribute to my society as much as my limits permit.Whenever I visit my thesis advisor’s office I can’t help but read McKay’s quote pinned to the wall, “Find a purpose in life so big it will challenge ever capacity to be at your best”. And on reading it, a single thought urges me on - “Inspire Aspire, Focus, and Work.” I believe the Post-graduate program in management at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore will enable me to further cultivate my analytical and technical skills combined with the inter-personal and communication skills.
