Each individual on Earth is exploring in a physical body new ways of experiencing life. Through this process of discovery, each of us is developing a deeper level of understanding of life and a greater ability to express our essence.
The human stage of existence is essential in facilitating personal transformation and causing it to trigger, like a metamorphosis, the integration of your formed identities into an essence.
Life energy encircles ones reality, and to transform it to levels that clearly reflect the perspective of this essence. This essence is the fullest expression of each individuals soul, and most closely exemplifies ones capabilities within.
We all adhere to certain experiences that transform us and establish a sense of adeptness in harnessing new challenges. Life is eternal, not only in the abstract sense of never ending or beginning, but also in the real sense.
It is ever expanding in all realities within the universe. It is the wholeness of experience flowing past the individuals’ field of perception in the present moment. One has to persevere and thus to allow transformation that can sustain an individual during treacherous times. This transformation has established my set of core beliefs. These beliefs have been influential in my decision to pursue industry and labor relations.
As a child, one of the most poignant experiences was an imbued passion for the renaissance and emergence of commerce and industry. Commerce and industry have always been closely related. Sometimes one is ahead and sometimes the other, but the one behind is always trying to catch up. I delved into the commerce revolution from 1400 and the progress over the next three and a half centuries that eventually ushered in the industrial revolution.
The foundations of a new economy in which change was a normal condition were laid from 1750 to 1830. The historical events in question consisted of a set of technological, economic and social changes that in the long run revolutionized not just the British economy but that of the rest of western Europe, North America, and eventually much of the rest of the world.
The Industrial Revolution brought about a “modern” economy in which technological progress did not just happen from time to time in isolated sectors but became a sustained and continuous process, resulting eventually in unprecedented economic growth and increases in living standards in much of the world. Its effects led to a complete reorganization of production, consumption, location patterns, international relations, demographic behavior and almost every aspect of human condition.
Yet unlike the American and French revolutions that were contemporaneous with it, the Industrial Revolution brought economic changes that were neither dramatic nor very abrupt. There are no industrial equivalents to the Battle of Lexington or the conquest of the Bastille. Yet in the economic history of humankind, the Industrial Revolution marks a watershed. This became my mettle in life.
The embers of an innate force that drives one for change and innovation in the human condition compelled me to self-mastery through personal transformation which represents highest stage of perception and expression of ones soul. It is initiated when you choose to design your life based upon principles that are symbolic of your character. There is a natural gravitation towards life principles that symbolically express the formative solutions to a plethora of challenges.
This could be perceived as an energy system that perforates all aspects of intellectual and daily experiences of life. It is so subtly interwoven with form that it is one, in much the same manner as space and time are inextricably linked in union. Energy is a motive. This motive drives me in every nuance and aspect of life.
Human condition is circumscribed by the dimensions of time and space and the elements of energy and matter. It is played out upon removing the impediments and reaching the shallows of boundless ocean within. You can see the attributes of illumination and enlightenment of your dedication in life. The ascension of these embers from the roots of their existence are just initial stirrings that lead to contemplation of ones insatiable mission.
ILR is the fruition of this mission. ILR is the realization of the utmost excellence in vision and acumen in labor and management relations. ILR inspires me because it was established on the heels of the great depression when labor unions and management relations were compounded to the forefront.
The picture of 12-year-old Addie Laird at the dawn of the 20th century is etched in my mind. She worked long hours for little pay as a spinner in a Vermont cotton mill. Addie was one of thousands of children who entered the work force in the early 1900s, a period characterized by unsafe working conditions.
Addie, like many other children, worked barefoot. It would be another 28 years before legislation was passed outlawing child labor. As other legislations would propel improved industrial and labor conditions, I am inspired to be part of the cutting edge research that instills in me the skills to face challenges of the future.
Future challenges and labor conflicts in the workplace have been contentious. I am devoted to well being of worker organizations because they have helped the American democracy and serve as a countervailing force to otherwise overwhelming business domination.
I am imbued with interest for labor history and policy legislation. In fact, I would like to concentrate in labor policy and law legislation. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, labor struggles were more acute in the United States than in many European countries. Today, in contrast, labor relations in the United States are more cooperative and less conflict-ridden than elsewhere.
The story of how the United States forged an enduring and workable system of collective bargaining after more than half a century of bitter struggles is one of the most important themes in modern American history.
As you become increasingly adept at touching and awakening the essence of this potential, you can begin to feel imbued with passion and drive to make that comprehensive transformation in keeping our planet sustainable for generations to come.
As the ancient Indian proverb righteously states, `treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children`.
My mission in life is to take every word, every thought and superimposing it on expression of compassion which manifests itself in serving public needs. This sovereign expression can create the ideal reality to fully awaken our deepest desires and integrate body, mind, heart, and soul to transform people’s lives. The promotion in excellence of education and research at ILR gives me the opportunity to forge new channels of this motive in life and its expression.
As an individual wanting to make the best of his past experiences, I would considerably want to be a part of an institution that has the same goal as mine, thus would likely give me the chance to be the best kind of person that I could be while likely having a better view of the future through the profession that I would be mastering.
The needs of the society with regards fair labor and fine industries is an insistent matter that should be considered closely by the people of today.
This is because of the fact that the said issue affects everyone else in the community. Because of this fact, I personally would like to be honed by an institution that believes in the capability of each person to make a change in the society for the betterment of everyone else. This is the main reason why I want to become a part of the Cornell School of Labor and Industries.
