Returning to School Christina Romisch ENG 121 English Composition I January Pearson September 17, 2012 Page 1 Some people may say that you do not need to go to college or return to school. I would have to say that is definitly not true. You do need to go to college to sucure your future. Time Management, Learning to write APA format, and the benefits of obtaining a college degree are three important things to remember when returning to school. In this essay I will be explaining some things to remember when returning to school that can help on your jouney.

Let us start with time management, and how it works. When you first start back to school you may find just like I did that managing work, school , and your family is difficult. The first thing to do is sit down and write out all the things you need to do. Like making sure that all three (family, work ,and school) fit in to your schedule.

The best place to put school in your schedule is when it best fits for you, what I mean is like after your kids are put in bed or are in school, as of for a more quailtiy, peaceful, and relaxed time to study. Also remember to never forget to spend quaility time with your family as they are uasually your support, like in my case my back bone.To conclude “In the same way that you need to create a monthy budget for your expenses, bills, and so on, consider having a budget for your time”(Alexander, Clugston, & Trice, 2010, Managing your Time and Resources , Para. 3). Page 2 A big part of returning to school for me was learning to write in APA format.

“The most common problem with writing comes from lack of planning”(Alexander, Clugston, & Trice, 2010, Managing your Time and Resources, Para. 3), what I get from that statement is that inorder to write better we need to find and make the time to perpare. Most people do not understant that college writing is not the same as a personal diary, or how you would talk to a friend. It is more perfessional, and has more critiacl thinking involved in the process. Plus there are certain guide lines to follow in college level writing, that you probably would never have seen in High school level writing.

Well I know I did not learn about APA formating in high school. Plus getting and learning the proper information and skills for college level and/or APA format writing does not happen over night it takes practice, so like learning any other skill you must keep trying and practicing.I have identified, and can say that this skill has helped me in returning to school. Let us move along now, to the benefits of obtaining a college degree. Benefits of obtaining a college degree all depends on the student and their own personal values.

Here are three benefits that I have identified with while obaining my college degree; a career, A more stable life and living, and becoming more educated. Having a career I would have to say, helps to have a more stable Page 3 living, by allowing you to get yourself better pay by being able to get a better job and/or career. Also being able to have the job you enjoy helps with your emontional well being and happiness. People that are happy and enjoy were they are working are emontionally more stable.

Also being more educated is a benefit becauce then you will be more able to comperhened more complex writing, and skills. To conclude we have descussed three benefits that obtaining a college degree can help you with. Now let us conclude this paper with one final thought; when planning to return to school here are three things to consider, your time management, learning how to write in APA format, and some of the benefits of obtaining a college degree.I hope that you now are a little more ready to return to school. remember only 65% of people in 2008 enrolled into college, I would like to see that percentage go up high, so lets not be in that other percentage of 35%.

Good luck. Reference APA Mary Alexander, Wayne Clugston, & Elizabeth Trice (2010), Learning online and achieving lifelong Goals. Retrieved from https://content. ashford. edu/books/AUEXP105.
