The word service has taken on many meanings in today’s societies and has been categorized into various levels. One underling truth remains consistent within its interpretations, and that it is an intangible act rendered and measured by the satisfaction or disaffection of the receiver. My philosophy of service is found in my belief that to be of good service is to serve God.

This conviction informs my social perception, spoken word choices, work ethic and understanding. The structure of society is diverse and so too is its view of service which is reflected in the priority or lack thereof given to policies aimed at developing a culture of service. A leader’s values seen in a statement like “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”. An ideology that holds the true meaning of quality service.

I think this idea contributed to developing a culture of excellence in service. This shows that a leader’s role can and have contributed to a positive attitude of service, incorporated in education, public, and corporate systems, seen in assistants to community needs such as drug addiction, sport activates after school and continuing studies projects, along with the many voluntary and nonprofit organizations. I define a service philosophy as ones’ values and priorities of what is important when interacting with people you serve, listening, paying attention to needs expressed, and fulfilling them within the parameters of integrity, excellence and transparency.I believe that we are more than body and mind we are also sprit.

In my interaction and relationships I have learned that words have the power to affect one’s state of mind and spirit. Poorly chosen words can kill enthusiasm, impact self-esteem, lower expectations and hold people back. Well chosen ones can motivate, offer hope, create vision, impact thinking and alter results. They also impact and influence people I speak them to. My choice to use my words to encourage, uplift and motivate serves to foster a sense of well being; this is my philosophy of service for my spoken word.

Philosophy of work and service is a genre on its own class and requires respect, trust, dedication, accountability, ongoing analysis and introspection as well as awareness. The service philosophy should work to the ultimate goal of satisfaction, a philosophy that most people have generally accepted. I think all work has essential value on its own. I think we all have natural talents and inclinations, which stir us to use our minds cohesively, and produce great works that serve self and community therein serving God.

Work as service is a necessary, mindset or concept to understand ourselves better in our endeavors- failure and frustration a part of the process in which we can appreciate and measure the outcome. It would be too much emphasis on work to say that it is solely our human value but it is certainly true to say that our philosophy of work and service define us in deep and important ways. To my understanding of service, service should transcend one’s ego, as it can restrict one’s ability to be receptive. In so doing limiting our ability to full fill our defined roles, be it personally or professionally. Keeping one’s purpose in mind can allow for rendering quality service, for instance a teacher will be able to truly teach if they understand that it’s the students needs that they are there to facilitate not there’s.

Quality service is delivered with understanding, humility, joy and sincerity. Having respect for oneself and coming into the understanding that what you do to earn a living does not define your worth, supports being of good service.Knowing what is more important is the impact and imprison you make with those you serve. Society needs all kinds of skills that are not just cognitive; they're emotional, they're affectional. ‘You can't run the society on data and computers alone. ” Toffler also states, in Rethinking the Future, that "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

" Service approached with openness and respect allows us to better serve ourselves, each other and ultimately serve God.
