SWOT Analysis SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favourable and unfavourable to achieving that objective. The technique is credited to Albert Humphrey, who led a research project at Stanford University in the 1960s and 1970s using data from Fortune 500 companies. Education based on 3 pillar: Extra learning dimension /teamworking/ - State of flow /balance between difficulties/ - 4C /connect, construct, contemplate, continue/ Weakness: 1. Expensive and takes long time to travel to education centers 2.
centers only at 6 places /not in Europe/ 3. need many stuffs to be bought for succesful learning Opportunities: 1. There are always kids for studying and selling the stuffs Threats: 1. Computer games, TV 2.Poor countries /e.
g. Africa, no money for this kind of education/ We used the SWOT-analysis on the program made for children by Lego named Lego Education and Lego Education’s official homepage. We’ve found many accomplishments which makes the program to being succesful, but we’ve found some weaknesses of this program, which helped us to come up with solutions of making a system that works better than the current one. The real strenghts of the program are those which helps the children to study easier combining the studying with games and fun.The other real strenghts are using the 4C method (connect with the task, being participated with it, construct the construction asked by the task, contenplate about ow to solv the task and continue the progress of work even at home), the State of Flow (finding the balance between the difficulties so the children won’t get bored) and the Extra learning dimension (teamwork with other students).
We found that one of the real weaknesses is the price what the teachers and the students have to pay to go to the education centers every time to get educated in case of childrens and students also. It’s too expensive, so we think this must be the most important to be changed. Other really big negative is that the locations of the centers can’t be found in Europe. That makes even harder and more expencive the traveling to these centers. What we found extended strenght (opportunity) is the group of costumers.
There are always kids for studying and selling these kind of educator-games. So we could say there is a fix costumer layer on the market. Big threat for the program that Children rather like play computer games and/or watch TV than use their imagination and construct, build something used their own brain. But on the other hand we could use this problem and turn it into an advantage, making a program which based on using computers for example. Considering the fact (based on our research) that children (age 5-8) like to play/use computers (even their own or their’s parents’ computer) or watch TV, it is a big threat for Lego Education, children rather play computer games or watch TV than build, construct using their imagination and constructing skills.
Based on this fact we had planned to work with computers and develope an education system which may reach the children of the 21st century and offer them a playful education with lots of fun, and activities, what the nowadays-children appriciate. So we trying to keep the real strenghts of this Education form made by Lego, which one of them is the „fun for children to learn”, and making an already not made program which helps children to solve problems, doing tasks and get some experience about the world with playful studying mixed with team-work via the internet. Our concept based on the following main pillars, first of all the 4C-theory: the children connect when they gets the briefing of their task, construct the buildings and other stuffs to do based on theirs task briefing, contemplate to solve the task and finally continue the series of tasks what the program offers to them, even continue at home. We also wanted to keep the other keystones in our program so we implemented/upgraided the „helpful website” -strenght as a profile-based Lego-website, where all the children, all the teachers and even the parents have their own profiles. This solution may help to keep serving children with the teachers’ attentions (such as homework, time of lessons or competitions with other students in the world), and also being contacted with other fellow team-mates.
This whole idea helps children to make a big community through the world wide web, where they could contact, discuss and consult with each other about the competitions and each others works, and it’s a good possibility to make some new relationships too in the future. ----------------------- [1] SWOT analysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. .
