Accounting is the system of recording, verifying and reporting of the valve of assets, liabilities, income and expenses in the books of account to which debit and credit entries are chronologically posted to record changes in valve. An Accountant is a practitioner of accountancy, which is the measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information that helps managers, investors, tax authorities and other decision makers make resource allocation decisions. Accounting has always been an interest of mine. Since I was a child, I have always wanted a career in accountancy. Therefore the career I have chosen is to be a Public Accountant.

Public Accountants work under the accounting industry which is all along with my interest. Public Accountant is the profession who perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for her clients, which may be corporations, government, non-profit organisations or individuals. Some public accountants specialise in forensic accounting. This involves investigating and interpreting white-collar crimes such as securities fraud and embezzlement, bankruptcies and contract disputes.Public accountants are a vital part of any strong business or organisation. They are respected and admired by their peers, clients and social circles; this is also one of the reasons why I have chosen this career.

Also the other factors which have made me to choose my goal of becoming the Public Accountant are; career security, there is a shortage of experienced accounting professionals which puts those with their certified public accountant qualifications designation even more in demand. Personal growth, this helps to improve yourself and those around you.Job satisfaction and variety, Accounting is an intensely vibrant field full of opportunities for travel, excitement and job satisfaction which make a positive impression on my colleagues. Furthermore, Public accountant career is a great career and it’s highly rewarding career path in terms of money and benefits. My goal is to be Public Accountant in the next six years. Logic, analytical skills and attention to detail are the three important attributes you need to excel at accountancy.

Add these to the drive, ambition and the ability to communication on all levels.I can offer a number of these attributes; I am comfortable with numbers, I am actually very good in dealing with numbers especially calculating. Also I have excellent communication skills both oral and written. Got a level two certificate in communication skills and also my communication skills improved through the research and group work.

I am a team player, I work very well with others to get and deliver information which makes the job easier. I have already applied this skill with the management accounting course work group discussion and they have been also supportive and helpful in team work. Also the discussion group members have helped me to improve the interpersonal skill. Now I am able to interact with others freely without any fear. Also I have got the skill of analytical ability.

I can critically examine the information before accepting it. I am computer literate and have got a level two certificate in computer studies which include word, excel, power point, Data base and web design. Most of above skills I have developed them through my accounting studies. I have got Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) level 4 certificate. This is the technician level which is equivalent to diploma level of accounting.

Therefore, I want to learn and achieve the skills which I do not have. Problem solving skill which will provide me with ability to overcome obstacles and how to deal with challenges in the work environment. An insight into Business procedures, the nature and functioning of organisations, and the commercial world in general. The skill of Report writing is needed in preparing statistical and written reports. Also lack of Professionalism skill which includes how I treat others, my behavior in the work place and work performance, including discretion with sensitive information.

Time management is needed in order to manage and prioritise the work load to meet goals and deadlines. CPA skill which is valued and respected as the pinnacle of professional achievement, and can equate to job promotions, travel opportunities, and personal growth. To achieve these skills which I am lacking, I have joined the University to widen my level of understanding the way the accounting activities are done in this world. Also I have registered with the Business works consultants at London Metropolitan University Moorgate to get advice and guidance relevant to how to achieve my goal of becoming the public Accountant in the right way.

I worked before with Oxfam and Haringey council voluntarily for about six months but the work I did there, was far away from my goal. Now I am looking for a part time job in accounting department of any business or organisation to start in July 2010 to gain the work experience which will motivate me more and also be more competitive. This will help me to achieve my goal. During this time of work training, I will build up experience and take on additional responsibilities like liaising more directly with clients and knowing different career routes to achieve my goal. Therefore, I will complete my University studies in three years time that’s in February 2013 because I am a part time student.

And I will proceed to the professional course of ACCA for two to three years, that’s around 2014 to 2016. After that I will be a certified Public Accountant and that is my goal.
