Mumbai and Delhi, both, are very well known metropolitan cities in India. New Delhi is the capital of India while Mumbai is the financial capital of India. Both of these cities share a lot in common and each have their advantages and drawbacks to live in.
New Delhi, the capital of India is a very busy city being the largest city. It has a smaller population compared to Mumbai even though it has greater area. The infrastructure of New Delhi is the best in India which allows it to host The Commonwealth Games in 2010. It has a better travel network in the form of a metro which is well connected to all the parts of the city.It has a much lower population density compared to that of Mumbai and hence it much greener and has many open spaces. New Delhi is also the city which has the top prosperity index in India.
It has more hotels than that of Mumbai and the real estate prices are much lower. There is transport for all walks of life and as Delhi has a lower population it also has a much higher per capita income than Mumbai. Delhi is the political centre of India as it is the capital and hence many important decisions are taken in Delhi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.Delhi has many more foreign consulates which give visas to enter foreign countries which make it more convenient for people to fly out from Delhi rather than Mumbai.
There is much more sight seeing to do in Delhi as many monuments such as The Qutub Minar, The Red Fort and the Rashtrapati Bhavan is located out there. This makes it attract more tourists than Mumbai. However, Delhi is very unsafe and the crime rate is very high. It is not safe for a woman to walk alone on the roads and most of the people are not friendly.
Delhi has more power and water problems than Mumbai too. The climate of Delhi is not good, there are extremes of climate which makes the place unpleasant in summer.Mumbai is the city with a soul, the bustling metropolis that never sleeps the country's tinsel town and commercial capital. Mumbai is a city which is very important for trade as it is a port unlike Delhi which is in the centre of the city.
Mumbai is also called the entertainment capital of India due to Bolywood, India's biggest film industry. Mumbai has produced great actors, actresses and cricketers.Mumbai has an active nightlife for youths as it is much safer as compared to Delhi. It is also very safe for women as they can walk on the road alone at night.
Biraaj, a student from my class says, "Mumbai is way better than Delhi as it is safer for girls, there is not much discrimination over gender and people are much friendlier." In general, people are much more helpful and cooperative in Mumbai. "A house is made a home by the people living in it and not by the beautiful walls inside" says Rabindranath Tagore which is true as Mumbai might not have the metro and other such facilities but people are much more friendlier than that of Delhi. All the stock exchanges are located in Mumbai such as the Sensex and Nifty which is the economy of India as a whole. There are more industries located in Mumbai which makes produced goods cheaper as it is located closer to the main market.Competition makes the power supply very good with hardly any power cuts throughout the year, while Delhi has quite regular ones.
Mumbai has many water bodies and beaches which increases the entertainment facilities of Mumbai while Delhi is in the centre of India and has no beaches. Mumbai has one of the largest lakes in India, The Powai Lake which makes the water supply of the city very efficient. Delhi does not have any large water body in the city which makes its water supply less sufficient than Mumbai's.Mumbai's transport is well linked with good railway links which are usually very crowded but very fast and on time. The drivers in Mumbai are more disciplined than that of Delhi. Delhi drivers have a lot of "road rage" and do not care of other people crossing roads and hence drive very recklessly.
The job opportunities in Mumbai too are much better which attracts people from all over India. It is also called the "limelight of India" due to the various jobs it offers for people of all skills. The people of Delhi also pay less tax as compared to Mumbai even though it has better infrastructure than Mumbai which just proves how much corruption there is in Delhi and how politicians do not care much about Mumbai and are only trying to improve Delhi as a city. The climate in Mumbai is much better than that of Delhi. It has coastal temperatures which makes it very pleasant throughout the year.
Summers are not very hot and Winters not very cold. The temperature is quite predictable which makes it easier for the citizens living there. The monsoons come in with enough rain for the farmers to grow enough crops for the full country.Mumbai is located less than 150 kms away from hill stations such as Loonavla and other small towns such as Pune and Aamby Valley City which are beautiful places to visit for a weekend and are very relaxing with various facilities. Cities like New Delhi do not have many good hill stations so close to them with such good facilities.According to me, Mumbai is a much better city to live in than Delhi even though Delhi has better infrastructure and is the capital of India because of the various different kind of entertainment facilities, very nice and fun loving people, and zest for life, cultural richness, and safety and due to the holiday destinations close to Mumbai.
Delhi might be technologically more advance but people in Mumbai are really nice and cooperative and not very political.
