Man has come a long way from the cave era to the current skyscrapper era. From an age where he went herb hunting to treat small cuts to the stem cell era. Man's basic needs since the ancient times have always been a comfortable home and good health for life. It is impossible to imagine a world without houses, cars, planes, roads and bridges.
It is equally impossible to imagine how miserable life could be if there was no treatment to a simple cold.By nature man is a visionary at heart. Nothing is so inspiring as seeing a great structure well planned and laid out. Engineering is a great profession. There is the satisfaction of watching a figment of the imagination emerge through the help of science to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realization in stone or metal or energy.
Then it brings jobs and homes to men. Then it elevates the standards of living and adds to the comforts of life.That is the engineer's highest privilege. What can one say about doctors. Anything we say will not be enough to praise this noblest of all professions. Doctors are people who heal the sick.
To know the value of a doctor, ask a person who has a family member suffering an illness and battling life and death. A million thanks to the great doctors and scientists who are working relentlesssly and leaving no stone unturned to find cures to many fatal diseases.The declined rate of featal abnormalities, eradication of smallpox, increased survival rate of cancer patients and general life expectancy being at record levels in the last few decades are nothing but medical miracles. Famous words of Neal Armstrong when he landed on the moon were "This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".
Had it not been for the engineers and doctors, landing on the moon and being able to survive out there in space would still have been man's unfulfilled dream.
