What is human trafficking? Human trafficking is the fastest increasing criminal industry in today’s society. It been traced back to the ancient Mesopotamian and Mediterranean civilization and has continued to grow. It is commonly referred to as "modern-day slavery" is the illegal trade of human beings for forced labor or for exploitation. Types of Exploition include sexual exploitation, forced labor and services, slavery, and the removal of organs. Human trafficking affects everybody that resides in the country where the crime is being committed.

Woman and young children living in poverty are the ones who usually fall in the trap of the traffickers. Due to poverty many woman are not educated and are no employed leaving them with no choice but to sell their bodies to provide for their families. This horrible act involves violence and misery, especially if they don’t cooperate the way they are supposed to. The people are held against their will and are being traded. This is a violation against their human rights. Human trafficking is a near-guaranteed death experience too because HIV and AIDS breakouts have increased because of it.

Governments around the world are just beginning to address this problem and have realized just how strong this type of slavery has become. Somalia is a country in Africa that has one of the biggest Human Trafficking systems throughout the entire continent. Children are mainly trafficked from south-central Somalia, because of the lack of government there, says a senior government official. There is a lack of government in Somalia, which is one of the reasons why authorities have not dealt with the problem yet.Because of the weak government, there have been many individuals that have stepped up and have taken action about the issue. Officials in Somalia’s self-declared independent state of Somaliland are concerned over a rise in human trafficking in the region.

Ms. Fatima Sudi, Somaliland’s minister of Family Affairs and Social Development has been extremely concerned in the increasing of human trafficking and has been having press conferences and made a big statement “For those who are involved to take action to stop it. ”The I. O. M (International Organization of Migration) is a international organization formed mainly to cease human trafficking globally. The I.

O. M places emphasis on outreach and advocacy activities to raise awareness of the danger and risks involved with human trafficking. Through research, I discovered a few solutions to Human Trafficking. The people of Somalia must unite and continue to raise awareness. There are many people who do not know that human trafficking exist; the citizens must inform other individuals about the situation.

The people of the community can raise awareness by hosting seminars, debates, and forums. Also the people of Somalia need to create a stronger central government. Somalia currently has a weak central government. The country has not been without an effective central government since 1991.

This was the year President Barre was overthrown by violent clans forcing him to step down from office. Once they gain a strong central government, the trafficking can cease by eliminating the officials advocate this. Human trafficking is an issue that needs to be stopped. It is very uncanny and it brings harm to many innocent people of the country of Somalia.
