Global warming has been an Issue that has caused fear and blame to be cast all over the world by various people and targeted towards various things for decades and decades, however the general consensus has remained consistent; that global warming is an issue that the entire world is undoubtedly facing and that it cannot be Ignored. In this paper I Intend to show the vicious cycle that revolves around global warming due to the fact that while global warming risks the wellbeing for mankind, ankind continues to encourage the progression of global warming (sometimes knowingly and albeit sometimes unknowinglyl and risks the wellbeing of mankind as well as the environment. There Is a lot of controversy as to the valldlty of the claim of global warming as well as what causes global warming, but before one can target the root cause of global warming, you must first understand what exactly global warming is.
The most important thing to know is that "global warming Is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature" (NMSEA, 2013). Now that we know and understand the basic eaning of what global warming is, it's important to understand that the issue of the average temperature rising is not like having one really hot summer, or a warm winter one year. The issue goes far beyond that. This increase happens consistently over time, and since It Is the average temperature, that means that the general temperature of the Earth, on any particular day, not during a season, etc.
Is higher. If it continues to rise, eventually the temperatures would be too warm to be contusive to plants growing, animals surviving, etc. To look at the extreme end of the matter, if he temperature average was too high, our earth would be too warm for humans to survive on. Our earth wouldn't be a stable environment for anything.
While there are efforts being made for satellite planets for humans to live on in space, I'm doubting those efforts would be successful if the home base planet was not a stable planet on which humans could live on in any regard, and since humans can't survive on any other planet at this point. There would be no other option for us, and we would all become extinct. The theories as to the cause of global warming over the years have varied vastly, owever, the later theory and more common one, is that global warming is caused primarily by humans. While there Is a natural greenhouse gas effect, that natural effect was not dangerous and did not risk our Earth's health nor our existence.
The intensity at which the effect is magnified is happening is caused by something, generally theorized to be humans. The theory is usually that "humans are currently adding to the naturally occurring greenhouse gases In the atmosphere, causing more warming than occurs naturally. Scientists often call this human-magnified effect the enhanced greenhouse effe« (Turk, J. ; Bensel, T.
2011). Since Technology has advanced and humans have started driving cars, which burn fossil fuels, and emit exhaust fumes, among other things, they have advanced what would be a natural warmth of the earth on to a path to dangerous temperatures and in an extremist theory, the eventual end of survivability of all species on the planet, including but not limited to humans. In the past there were various theories as to what initially started global warming, however, one of the most concerning theories isn't necessarily who or what caused lobal warming and more about the process of stopping it's progression and if it will do more harm than good. Have you ever wondered if the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" is actually true? How do you really know? How does one know that the alternative to the way that they are currently living is any better than they are living right now, and maybe not worse? We have grown to live in a society where people assume the roles of a martyr, where they constantly think their lives are worse than others, and that things could always be bigger and better. Ironically nough, not only was that the behavior that led to the worsening of global warming, but it could also be the same behavior that is now giving us a false hope about it. There have been a lot of "fears fuelled by the possibility that smoke, hazes and particles from burning vegetation and fossil fuels could be masking global warming by bouncing solar energy back to space.
This "global dimming" effect is diminishing as we clean up air pollution" (Turk, J. ; Bensel, T. 2011). So as the awareness of global warming rises, a lot of people start striving to live their lives being "green onscious" and being environmentally healthy, but there are thoughts, that living that life could be dangerous to our health and existence.
If the damage is already done, and we clear up the "global dimming" too much, our temperature could rise to a dangerous level according to these theories. This is a rather frightening thing to think about. We could end up risking our earth by believing this fear and theory, or by ignoring it.In one theory, if we continue to live the way that we are and make global warming more of an issue, then of course our Earth as we know it will eventually iminish. However, if this fear, involving "global dimming" is true, then by doing as we should do based on the theory of "cleaning up" for global warming, we will be doing a lot more harm than good, and will be harming ourselves in the long run! Personally, it is my opinion, that there will always be some sort of balance or teeter tottering methodology, preventing either sudden extreme events from happening in either regard.Since the human population is so large, and we all have so many different opinions and theories and we all live so differently, all of our life styles are ll different, so we aren't going to be able to clear up the "global dimming" quickly, because while there are many people who fight to end activities to accelerate global warming there are many people who still pollute the air, which will keep that "global dimming" present.
Just like there are people living a life style that will continue the acceleration of global warming while others fght for a healthier air quality and awareness of global warming. It will be a never ending battle. So there are the dilemmas; are humans the sole cause of global warming? I think he general population agrees, we aren't the only thing to blame, but we are the primary reason behind it yes. However, the bigger dilemma is what will make it better and what will make it worse. The issue comes in to play when the action in which one person thinks will fix the problem, another person thinks will make it worse, and there still really isn't an answer to say who is right and who is wrong in that regard. It will take years more of trial and error to figure out the answer to the dilemma and debate to know for sure.
All we can tell for sure is what is increasing global warming, nd slowly over time we may be able to tell through trial and error what is improving it, though we may never be able to completely stop it since there is still a natural variable. Even if the majority of people agreed upon a lifestyle that would be beneficial towards slowing down global warming, the issue of discussing lifestyle changes is everyone has free will.Sure, there can be talks about how a car with better gas mileage or an electric car would be better for global warming, but evidently there will always be a person somewhere in the world there will always be someone driving a ummer or some other vehicle getting 10 miles to the gallon. When it comes to life style choices, someone always sways to be different. However, if political regulations were put into place we could potentially see a bit more progress. While we may not be able to stop reverse global warming, and stop it completely "failure to mitigate promptly may commit humanity to rapid temperature increases with severe consequences.
Early decisions about mitigation policies allow societies to choose between slow and rapid global warming, whereas failure to make these decisions will commit the world to rapid global warming" (UrpelainenJ. 012). If we can mitigate any policies such as emissions monitoring or limiting, ideally on a federal level, but even more popularly on local levels, it would but an impact on the footprint we are causing on global warming. Any effect we have at this point will improve the quality of life for our grandchildren and our great grandchildren and so on and so forth. The temperature rising as a result of global warming and creating an environment that is too hot for various plant and animal species to thrive is a huge concern, however, there is also another large concern revolving around global warming that is ne most people would not associate with simple being "hot", that concern is; water.
Global warming will have effects that will ripple across the world in many different ways. It's not as simple as Just raising the temperature. I know when I was younger and naive; I thought global warming couldn't be all bad!I didn't like snow, and I hated the cold, so I could certainly do without winter! However, it's Just not that simple. The wide range of things it can affect ranges far beyond what most people thing about.
The "grim forecasts include environmental changes on a scale unprecedented in uman history, including melting polar ice caps, increased desertification, rising sea levels, and mass species extinction" (Thompson, A. 2009). When most think about the average temperature raising they simply think about heat. Maybe turning on the air conditioner, or grabbing lemonade.
The mind tends to logically travel to images of deserts. At extremes, temperatures so hot that nothing can survive. However, before that time comes, you have to remember how much of our earth is covered with ice, whether it be Antarctica, an entire continent covered in ice and snow, or all of the ice urgs or ice caps that would melt if exposed to high enough temperatures. This would raise the water levels, and cover a large amount of the ground mankind lives on.
A lot of us, unless we were able to flee to a high enough ground to not be submerged under water, would die by drowning, before we would die from heat.If we didn't die from drowning, we would lose a lot of living space, and the world's population would not have enough living space to support itself, and that is best case, with the water levels rising as they would. While the progression thus far of global warming cannot be reversed, or stopped, t least not anytime soon, if we follow protocols, and guidelines, we can at least slow down the progression of global warming, unfortunately many of us won't live to see the effect our efforts have on the fght against global warming.Just like in anything that happens in the world there are long term consequences for our actions.
Whether it is a person's actions to another person or to our environments. In the case of our environment; "the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere because of human activity will continue to warm the planet for decades to come, hich means humanity is going to have to take action to adapt to a warming world" (Turk, J. & Bensel, T. 2011).While there is a natural global warming effect, and while the damage humans have caused already on the earth is something that will show longer than we will likely be alive. That is one of the reasons that we have to think for generations far beyond ours.
If we correct our living methods now, while we still have to live with any potential effects from global warming, we can at least minimize the effects that our children or grandchildren will experience in the future. If we continue to educate others as to the effects of global warming, and the ways to slow down or minimize the effects of it, then the slowing of the progression will continue well beyond our children's years as well. The other issue many people think about but don't necessarily connect with global warming, but perhaps should, so that they could see it as a win win is the health effect of the air pollution on people, especially the children and the elderly.
