Company Q has recently closed two of their stores in areas that are considered high crime areas. This company was claiming they were losing money. Failing to listen to customer request for more natural and organic products has forced them to shop in areas outside of their community. Company Q also needs to work with the local food banks with donating day old products. With all of these situations at hand and with the question being if Company Q is socially responsible, unfortunately the answer is no.
Company Q’s actions show no obvious level social responsibility.Being socially responsible is creating a positive impact in one’s community. Being socially responsible in so many ways also includes developing a partnership with the community and gaining a relationship of trust and loyalty. There are a few areas where Company Q is failing to display these actions.
First, by closing stores in the areas that have a considerable high crime rate, this gives a sense of being a negative action towards the community. By leaving these buildings vacant, Company Q is opening the doors for possible vandalism and possible squatters.This in return can affect other businesses and job viability in the area. Next, by not listening to customer request of more health-conscience and organic products, this is forcing customers to take their business elsewhere to fulfill their needs. In return Company Q is losing revenue and store cliental is falling. Failing to build relationships with local food banks and choosing instead to throw out day old products, shows a lack of care and consideration to developing relationships and the care about the locals in the community.
Finally with Company Q spending time worrying about fraud and theft within their staff, and displaying a lack of trust, shows poor developed ethics and a decreasing level of loyalty with their staff. This in return can cause a larger turnover in employment and provide less stability, which take away from the opportunity for growth. It is important for Company Q to be more socially responsible because doing so will build better relationships with members of the community. By doing this I feel it will draw more business to their stores.
This will also help build more trust in the community and in return I feel it will help them find more trustworthy, loyal and dedicated employees. I have three recommendations that I feel confident will help improve Company Q’s social responsibility and prevent any more closings of their store locations. First they need to listen to the request of the customers and bring in more health conscience products and organic foods to their markets. By satisfying the customer’s needs, Company Q will be providing customer satisfaction, which is a key factor in running a business.
This also will keep business local, and not drive customers to go elsewhere and keep continued revenue in their community. Next Company Q needs to partner up with the local food banks and donate their day old perishable products. This will show the care and commitment to giving back to community and bringing positive recognition to their business. Also with building relationships with other local businesses in the area, this gives the opportunity where they can continue good relations and together can communicate on how to make things better for their community.To prevent the worries of theft and fraud, Company Q need to install a security camera systems in their locations.
I feel with this in place, it would bring some ease to the worries of revenue loss. This will also better build their security measures not only against internal threats but of those that pose a threat on the outside. Company Q can take an extra step and build a relationship with their local police department. Offer discounted meals to officers on duty, where in return this will provide more patrol to their locations.In all honesty when anyone lays eyes upon a cop car or a policeman on the premises, it helps in the prevention of any criminal actions taking place.
This can help dimension the stereo-type of the area being accuse of having an above average crime rate. Finally, with these actions taking place I feel it will help in the development of a good team of employees. By Company Q showing their care and dedication to the community and ensuring customer safety, they will better be able to fulfill the work ethics they require from their employees.By the way they display their commitment and dedication to the community, it will make it easier to for their employees to want to do the same for the customers, and take pride and satisfaction for their place of employment.
In return Company Q will have less of a turn-over in their staff. These are my recommendations for Company Q to build social responsibility in their area. This will bring in a large turn in business revenue, commitment to the community, and a better business reputation.
