The death penalty is one of the punishments that may be rendered to a person who is found guilty of a capital felony in Texas.
A criminal act would qualify as punishable by death there is a need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the person intentionally and knowingly opted t committing a heinous murder (“Tarlton Law Library”). A person who commits a crime at the age of seventeen will not be legible to receive the death penalty.Capital punishment is still supported by two thirds of the American public according to a poll conducted by Harris Interactive in 2003 (harrisinteractive. com). Democrats and republicans alike have certain differences with regards to the subject matter.
Democrats who agree with death penalty complain that such punishment is being administered too often in the state of Texas. There are also does who adamantly believes that death penalty should be abolished due to its inhumanity. The majority of republicans on the other hand see capital punishment as a means of deterring future acts of murder and the like. They also view the death penalty as a way of maintaining social order; making sure that people retain their values (Halperin, ‘Death Penalty News’. I personally believe that death penalty is indeed the form of justice necessary to compensate for the loss of an innocent life. It serves as a warning to any individuals who may find themselves contemplating to do a crime.
One should know that death as a punishment would only threaten an individual if he or she is guilty of something. If people maintain their high moral values then perhaps there is no need for capital punishment. However as we can see, persons err and do evil leaving mothers, daughters, children weeping. People who commit such crimes deserve to give their life for a life lost. As such I believe that death penalty in Texas is still apt at this time. Yes, to a certain extent it is sad to know that such punishment has to exist for the higher good of society to be attained.
