With each passing day the crisis in Pakistan are increasing. The people of Pakistan now seem to be fed up of dealing with one problem after another. The most serious problem among the prominent issues that the people of Pakistan are facing today is the increase of street crimes.
Every day people hear about the incidences of mobile snatching and thefts at gunpoint, thefts of cars, motorcycles, they here of murders and robberies, rapes, firing and so on. These are categorized as “street crimes”.When you will discuss this particular topic in public, you will be surprised to see that every person has a story to tell about having their purse or wallet of cell phone stolen. It has been observed that these crimes takes place largely in big cities, where there are homeless people in large numbers and where people have a founding for expensive unnecessary luxuries of life. It is highly regretted that these incidents are on the rise instead of decline.
Some crimes are senseless and they are preventable.Mobile phone snatching, snatching of vehicles on gun point, and target killing and so on are some street crimes that are newly introduced and are increasing each day. The reason for the occurrence of these crimes are unemployment, illiteracy, poverty, hunger and inability of being responsible for maintain law and order. The official analysis of the data compiled by the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has revealed that everyday more than 124 mobile phones are snatched or stolen in the metropolis city of Karachi.This growing trend of cellphone theft in different parts of this city is the failure of police in containing the crime.
Street crimes have taken the whole society in its firm grip. The government needs to take preventive measures as soon as possible. Sincere steps need to be taken to solve the redundancy problems. An education system must be introduced for the poor people and the selection of people for the responsible institutions of maintaining law and order must be selected on the basis of merit instead of sources, only then can Pakistan become a country free of street crimes.
Brief History Since last 5 to 7 years street crime in Karachi has increased specially mobile phones snatching most of the people don’t even bother to report Police but those even does gets just the FIR which is useless. The Street Crime In Karachi has taken the shape of mafia and daily roughly estimated 200 to 400 mobiles gets snatched even I been the victim myself I ended up registering FIR but the result nothing. Police says CPLC semi private agency will do the investigation and CPLC will make you feel like you gifted your phone to the criminal !Interesting fact. No matter how many they have recovered, none ever been returned to the people to those it belongs.
That’s fair free hand to the criminals, if even the police catches individual or the groups, there are already multiple new one just entered in this field, Investigation Officers do the formality and later will tell you knock the doors of the court ! Citizens are sick and tired of this hide and seek between the police and the criminals in which FIR never plays the roles neither there’s any department for the check and balance.When we talk about the street crime its not just the mobile phones but on gun point one loses almost what he/she carrying, who hasn’t been snatched in Karachi and got the phone and other items recovered by the help of Police. To have pressure on Investigation Officer first you need to know DIG or IG directly through which call will be made to the SHO of that police station in which clearly mentioned that you are SOMETHING unlike ordinary than it’s possible they do the investigation else, once you get FIR frame it and hang it on the wall as a reminder of the time.There is no option to check the status of your FIR online, trendy dialogues by police are usual things! they are good at making you forget what ever you lost by saying “Sir, hum tou koshish kar rehay hain , aap fikar na karein ” — Sir , we are trying , you don’t worry — in actual they are trying to convey message — Sir, Forget what you have lost, we don’t have time to find something in which we don’t get something in return — our policing is highly corrupted but they are the men in uniform, there’s nothing a common man can do, If anyone of you got the recovered phone or anything consider yourself the most luckiest person in the city where law and order only exists to torture ordinary person.The best you can do is be wise and not to carry valuables and if you have too, keeping praying till you don’t reach your destination else FIR and the frame story I have already mentioned ! Street Crime cannot end until our policing doesn’t get better, Karachi needs honest , strict Police Officers else street crime won’t ever end nor gonna get controlled.
Causes of street crimesThe major causes are unemployment and illiteracy rate but there are some other factors too like lawlessness, fundamentalism, backwardness and double standards prevailing in the society. People around the world always think of Pakistannis as terrorists- we aren't all like that. Yes, I agree that there is a high crime rate, however, most Pakistanni's in the lesser civilised areas of Pakistan suffer from extreme depths of poverty, which is somewhat the main reason for high crime rates. Research into street crime (Weldon, 2005) Are environment, or genetics, more to blame when a human being turns to a life of crime?What does it mean to be criminally insane? Is the male psyche more prone to violence than the female? And how effectively can a criminal tendency be treated with drugs? What different lights can literature and science shed on these questions? Effect of street crime Most street crimes are rarely committed by big criminal organizations but its effects have a strong influence in society.
In this essay, I'll examine some causes and give solutions for this problem. Unemployment is one of the main causes. Unemployment leads to crime such as pick-pocketing.Unemployed people have no jobs, no money while they still live with their own needs and responsibility for their family. Sometimes,they want to earn money in a short time and by any means so they do something wrong even crime. In addition, lack of education also results in street crime.
In poor families, children can't study or leave school before graduating because their parents don't have enough money to pay tuition. These children can grow up without full education. They can't find good jobs or they become unemployed. Besides,lack of education also leads to less understanding.People without a good attitude do anything they want.
For example,in daily news,sometimes,train accidents happen;someone in the trains was injured because people who were outside threw stones at the. Statistical data street crime in karachi KARACHI: Karachi, is once again in grip of a new wave of street crime, resulting in the sense of insecurity amongst citizens. The year 2013 has also seen no respite in street crime in the metropolitan, once called the city of lights. Despite the election of new government, which was almost as same as in the past five years, the grievances faced by the people have not lessened.Despite ban on pillion riding from March 5 and police and Rangers’ posts after every 5 kilometres and beefed up patrolling of law enforcers on city streets, the rate of crime has not come down; instead the criminals have increased their activities. According to statistics obtained from Citizen Police Liaison Committee, the rate of street crime remained almost consistent in the first five months of the year.
The city witnessed snatching of 424 four-wheelers in January, 357 in February, 420 in March, 348 in April and 398 vehicles in May.The number of motorcycles snatched or stolen was: 1,951 in January; 1,801 in February, 1,521 in Mach; 1,574 in April and 1,805 in May. Similarly, 1,868 cell phones were snatched or stolen in January; 1,758 in February; 1,574 in March; 1,601 in April and 1,662 in May. The CPLC statistics identify the high-risk areas for motorcycle snatchings as Saddar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, followed by Jamshed Town and Liaquatabad. For cars, the area with the highest risk is Gulshan-e-Iqbal followed by Jamshed Town and Clifton.
The most-stolen car is the Suzuki Alto, followed by the Daihatsu Cuore and Daihatsu Charade. White cars are stolen the most.Speaking on the issue, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Station House Officer (SHO), Mr. Irfan, said that although the snatching rate in the town topped in the city but it had decreased from the past figures.
“We have increased patrolling and snap-checking in the area to overcome the crime,” he said. On a query that most people don’t register their First Information Report (FIR) on the pressure of police, he said that it was a wrong impression. “Most of the vehicles are insured and people sold out their vehicles in open market and then in order to get their insurance money back, claim insurance on behalf of the registered FIR.”The killings in the city also increased in the month of May where according to police records, 263 people including political activists and educationists have been murdered in the city.
The statistics show 60 killings in first two weeks of May while 53 and 90 people were killed in the last two weeks respectively. A resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Iqbal, said that people have made arrangements on their own in the neighbourhoods to avoid any street crimes and dacoities.“We have made speed breakers and put barriers in our areas to avoid any criminal activity in the area,” he said. The recent street battles between armed gangs in Lyari and its surrounding areas have also created havoc in the city.
Fear has gripped the business centers of the Saddar and its surroundings due to the battles. Speaking on a condition of anonymity, a shopkeeper at Bolton Market said,” We are forced to close our markets on almost daily basis because of uncertain law and order situation in the area.”How to overcome the street crimes Try to conceal your valuables e. g.
do not talk on your mobile phone in a public area, carry a laptop, or show your friend your new piece of expensive jewellery Try and stay in bright, well-lit and busy areas Try to look and act confident - look like you know where you are going and walk tall When out walking or jogging, you should not listen to a personal stereo through headphones, so you can stay more alert to your surroundings You might like to spread your valuables around your body.For example, keep your phone in your bag, your house keys in your trouser pocket and your money in your jacket If you use a wheelchair, keep your things beside you rather than at the back of the chair If someone tries to take something from you, it may be better to let them take it rather than to get into a confrontation and risk injury If you decide to defend yourself, be aware that your attacker might be stronger than you, it is often better just to shout loudly and run away Street crime is increasing day by day, it would be better to say, minute by minute in Pakistan.There is no street that is saved from mobile snatching and robbery. Alarming ratio of crime on the roads of Pakistan shows the non serious attitude of law enforcement agencies. Nobody wants to give his or her hard earned money to thieves and criminals but at the risk of life, they will have to surrender.
Here are the few precautions that help to avoid such criminal acts. Always choose the rout that is heavily lit and little or over crowded. To avoid heavy traffic, people use dark and isolated short cuts and they ignore that the risk of robbery is very high on those streets.Avoid short cuts if there is no emergency. Never show through your gestures that you are stranger and do not know the area deeply.
Speak loudly and behave as if your friends, family members and acquaintances are around you as you perceive that some criminal is about to attack you. If you do not know anybody around you, show that you know all of them and call out any name with confidence. Your accurate perception and time judgment help you make right decision. Believe it this technique is so powerful that my elder brother has used it four times and he saved all the time.You can also apply this technique if you are not sure that some stranger is tracing you.
Avoid using cell phones on street and roads openly. Never talk too loud on the phone while passing through the street because it will give the impression that you are completely involve in talking and it is the right moment to snatch the cell phone or anything from you. Be careful when people stop you for asking the directions and home addresses. If you get stop, put all your senses on alert because this is the famous tactic of robbers before snatching.
