Cloning is wrong. When a moral rule is violated, it is then considered to be unethical. Using human material is in a sense, stealing from another.
The act of cloning is stealing, and we cannot accept stealing as an act that can be agreed with, whenever the situation seems convenient. It is unfair to end the life, of another at any given age, just to use the embryo for cloning. There may come a time when physicians ask women to produce substantial numbers of eggs for the cloning process. If cloning is determined lawful, there’s no possible way to measure the amount of eggs that will be produced to fill the need for cloning.
It could be possible that women would be offered large amounts of money, from researchers, to hand over the eggs that are needed for the cloning and it could start a black market of embryos.Women with little money would be highly tempted in participating in the cloning process, in order to have a means for survival, and then you would also have the women, that just want extra shopping money, who would also participate, selling eggs for cash!Research cloning must be always considered unacceptable and unethical. The Washington Post reported recently, that the side effects of the injections used, which are called superovulatory drugs, which cause a woman to produce massive amounts of eggs, while they undergo a very invasive procedure, cause terrible abdominal pain, and sometimes there has to be surgery performed on the woman after the procedure, which may leave her infertile. There is too much risk for the woman’s health for the process of egg donation, and it should be very clearly pointed out that the risk for egg recovery is just to great.Embryos should be considered humans, when the question comes up before Congress.
A life is precious and shouldn’t be toyed with, by any means. We must considerer just how far we can go with experimentations and research. There has to be a moral stopping point, where man must realize he has gone far enough in his studies and experiments.Americans find abortion and human cloning, “Morally Wrong”, reveals (Pro-life Infonet, May 22, 2002) The results of the nationwide poll found that the majority of people who were asked revealed that they did, indeed, find cloning to be an indecent practice.
More people agree that in any stage of development, the rights of every human life does need protection says, (2006, Freeman, Morton) and it is crucial that we protect the ones who have no voice. The Christian Medical Association (CMA- www.cmawashington.org), the nation’s largest organization of faith-based doctors said the AMA’s decision this week,” to advocate human cloning, shows why doctors are leaving the American Medical Association in droves.”Glen Gabbard, M.
D. says that, (p. 776, The Merck Manual,) “It’s not hard to see that many people, regular citizens and people working in the medical industry, believe as well, that cloning, is simply unethical and should not be practiced by anyone.”There are still many who argue that cloning is necessary for improving the lives of others.
Therapeutic cloning is the production of human embryos for research purposes. The goal is not to create human beings, but to harvest stem cells that can be used to study development and to treat disease.Stem cells are important to biomedical researchers because they can be used to generate almost any type of specialized cell in the human body. Stem cells are extracted from the egg after it has divided for 5 days.
Some Researchers are hoping that one day, stem cells can be used to treat heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and many other diseases.
