When deciding which character to use for this I have decided to use the individual that plays Hannibal Lector. A man that has a dark side but can play a sophisticated doctor that is well-spoken and highly educated is the reason I like him very well for this paper. His personality was formed in the film that came out in 2007 titled Hannibal Rising.

After watching the murder of both of his parents, as well the horrible lose his younger sister is what started a personality change in the well known Hannibal Lector. Later Lector gets sent to an orphanage to which he runs away from. After attending medical school Hannibal plots revenge to those for his younger sister’s murder. Hannibal Lector seems to fit four out of the five personality traits to a certain point.

They are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness. Each step was thought out carefully and he was prepared for anything that came his way which is how Hannibal’s character methodically planned each crime show. Planning the torture and murder of each victim in the movie Hannibal Rising (2007) is an example of how he was detailed and paid attention.Openness to Experience would be one trait because the character showed in his crimes a imagination towards how he did his crimes. Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal had several pieces of art in his cell, showing an example towards how he liked fine arts and appreciate quality as well as being a curator for a library in Florence, Italy. I also believe him to be intellectually curious and enjoyed new experiences.

Yet with the agreeableness trait with Hannibal Lector I would say he was at the low end of this trait. With any of the films he had no sympathy or compassion towards others as well did not have any guilt for the murders and cannibalism he did. When looking in his eyes there was a cold look to him. The expression never changed when he looked before and after torturing a victim it was like he took pleasure.

Clarice from the FBI who played in Silence of the Lambs (2007) and he were the only people he showed any concern for. Compared to everything being an introvert was the best trait to describe Hannibal Lector. Drawingattention to him is one thing he liked to do this was for the reason he felt wanted. The movie Hannibal (2001), shows he was not always an introvert, he liked dinner parties and opera, so not all the way an introvert.

Being almost hypnotizing, Hannibal was soft spoken to which he had a way to gain the trust of the others by making them feel comfortable. Neuroticism seems to fit this character best out of the five traits. When being tormented by the psychiatrist when locked up he seems to be calm and collected no signs of being depressed or anything bothering him.The reason he kept going could be the reason of the deep hatred he had for what others did to him even though it would appear he buried all of his anger from the past.

Driven by hatred yet not showing it was the role of Hannibal Lector character. Never showing emotions of any kind made it hard to tell his personality traits. Ed Gein and Albert Fish which are two real life serial killer cannibals is who Hannibal character is closely based upon. Feeling nothing but anger and hatred towards others that did him wrong once the killing and cannibalism of his sister which possibly caused him to become a monster.
