Revolution in agriculture was important. Went from huntering and gethering to farming and growing crops.
Farming villages
1. Jericho- 8000 BCE in Palestine near Dead Sea, covered several acres. It had a wall several feet thick that enclosed houses made of sundried mudbricks. 2. Catal Huyuk- 6700 to 5700 BCE (highpoint), located in modern Turkey. It was an even larger community. Its walls enclosed 32 acres and a population of about 6,000. People grew their own food and stored it in storerooms in their homes. Food surpluses allowed for some people to become artisans and made weapons and jewelry (that they then traded with neighboring peoples).
Consequences
Trade emerged Specialized crafts Division of labor Men and women's roles changed (men came to play the more dominant role) Armies developed to protect their wealth from outside invaders.
