Acquired in 1818 from Britain, resolved boundary issues allowed joint occupation of Oregon Country. Resulted in struggle for control of Oregon.

Acquired in 1821 from Spain. Adam-Onis Treaty gave US Florida for US recognition of Latin America independence

Acquired in 1845 from Texas. Part of Mexico but became independent, annexed by Polk

Acquired in 1846 from Britain. Britain and America need to establish boundary between Canada and Oregon. Signed Treaty of 1846 to establish 49th parallel as boundary to avoid war with Britain

Acquired in 1848 from Mexico. Went to war with Mexico over border issues. US won, paid $15 million for Canada and New Mexico. Rio Grande established as border

Acquired in 1853 from Mexico. US got Arizona and New Mexico after Mexican-American War. US interested in Southern route for trans-continental railroad. We were pushed for more territory in addition to what was gained from the war.
