examine vocabulary that is needed to help students arrive at the "big idea". develop ways to introduce words before or during reading to help students gain understanding

read text fluently, stopping to ask questions that help students garner meaning with discussion

encourage discussion and deeper conversation with and between students

make text available to students...shared, guided, and independent practice needs to continue after read aloud activity and discussion

procure related texts to help students expand their understanding or provide answers to questions that still remain after activity
