Mike Duke has been the president and chief executive officer at the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (Wal-Mart).

for a period of four years spanning from 2005 to February 2009, he also served as the vice chair of the same company, with a greater responsibility for Wal-Mart. As the Chief Executive Officer, Mike is able to leads a very strong management team that has the interests of Wal-Mart and is focused on keeping Wal-Mart's mission of "saving people money so they can live better" which is a relevant theme to every customer of the Wal-Mart Stores for every day. The company has also continuously broadened and accelerated all of its global efforts on the environmental sustainability, the responsible sourcing and the associate opportunity. Mike Duke joined the Wal-Mart stores in 1995; Mike has successfully led the logistics section, distribution channels and administrative divisions as well as the Wal-Mart's United States. During his reign as the vice chairman, Mike played a very active role by being involved in the developing and execution of the corporate strategy (Duke, 2010). He was mainly focused on setting very high standards that could propel the company into the sphere of excellence by ensuring the maximum utilization of the company's resources and the people.

He was very influential and accomplished his role with achievements ranging from the redesign of the logistics and the mechanization of the distribution systems; he also engineered the recruitment of proper talents and the development of very strong working teams. As a result of Mike's superb leadership, the Wal-Mart company's international business became a fast-growing part of its overall operations. Through his effort in leading the Wal-Mart's expansion into a mature and emerging as a modern market, Mike was able to build a strong and international management team that ensured he delivers very strong operational results in a very complex and glbal environment. Before joining the Wal-Mart Company, Mike had worked and gained experience for the 23 years in retailing with the Federated Department Stores and the May Department Stores. Currently Mike serves on the board of directors of the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and also holds various posts in other places such as the board of directors of The Consumer Goods Forum; he is also in the executive committee of Business Roundtable and is on the executive board of Conservation International's Center for Environment Leadership in Business.

At the University of Arkansas, He also serves on the board of advisors and the advisory board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing, China. He is a very active member of the National Academy of Engineering. Mike is a graduate from the Georgia Tech and holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. He and the wife, Susan, have three children, a son and two beautiful daughters. Mr.

Duke's qualifications to serve on the Board is based on his decades of experience in the retail industry, doubled with his years of executive leadership experience at the multiple operating divisions of the Wal-Mart company, he has international retail experience, and is an expertise in the corporate strategy, development issues and the execution. Over the years that mike has worked in the enterprise, he has show a lot of skills in hi work. He understands very well the characteristic and the needs that his post entails. This is shown by the balance he has in his work and as a father. He is able to propel the business to greater height engineering opening of several branches around the world and in the process take care of his family.

He seems to understand very fast the need of each participant in the group thus ensuring the business growth. This helps him to have respect for each worker enabling to plan and program the duties to be carried by eaach employee at ease. Therefore, he has created trust with his employees that are reflected by the growth of the business especially at this competitive time of globalization. He is a team player. Apart from being the director Wal-Mart, he also engages himself in various activities as being an executive committee of the Business Roundtable among others. He works without fail in all these places and has become very successful in his field. This calls for intensive plan and discipline.

He is result oriented. Mike is capable of going a mile away in pursuit of attaining his professional and company's goal. He ensured that he mechanized the distribution system thus helping fast movements of good and materials in and out of the business more fast to ensure that time is saved to get the service (Investors, 2010). Even after having all the responsibilities, he is able to meet them with a very tight schedule.
