The war against terrorism

Is war the right way?
Why do people resort to such violent acts as bombing, assassinations, and hi-jacking? How do individuals and organizations justify these acts of terror? These acts can be described as terrorist actions.

Terrorism is a growing international problem. During the last twenty years, new terrorist groups have sprung up all over the world. Governments have had little success in their attempts to resolve issues in which terrorism is used.A major problem in discussing terrorism is establishing a generally accepted definition.

Terrorism can be described as the unlawful use of fear or force to achieve certain political, economical, or social aims. Because it is so hard to define, organizations like the United Nations have had great difficulty drawing up policies against terrorism.
A single individual, a certain group, or even governments may commit terrorist actions. Most terrorists, unlike criminals, claim to be dedicated to higher causes, and do not believe in personal gain. The methods used in terrorism include threats, bombings, and the destruction of property, kidnapping, the taking of hostages, executions, and assassinations.

In addition to terrorist groups, governments today also engage in terrorism. Countries sometimes use terrorism as a substitute for traditional warfare by providing money, training, and weapons to terrorist groups whose activities serve their national aims. Governments may also plan and carry out terrorist actions themselves, although they usually deny responsibility for them.
In many cases our governments resort to war as a form to resolve this terrorist crisis. In some cases it may be right but to fight terrorists with war is the wrong way. It is only showing that our country is worse than they are.

By committing war we are only embracing the thought that fighting and killing is the only way to go. This war that we are creating against these people and their actions is not justified in any manner. We are only creating more of a war in our own country than we are in the country of the one we are trying to fight. We have created such a war that people can even go places they normally go without being check by an officer or being suspected by someone that u are a terrorist. As we further bomb and shoot at these terrorists we they will further come back as if they have lost nothing.
We see these terrorists in the news every day and we see that they are not even moved by the actions we are doing to them.

They just brush it off as if it where nothing and had nothing to lose. In this case they dont lose anything but there husbands or wives or maybe their children, they cant lose a home because most of them dont have homes and if they do they are very dirty and small.
Ones gut reaction to any kind of attack is to get revenge, but much like a tango, it takes two to wage war. And frankly, we Americans should stand our ground! Show everyone that terrorism will not be tolerated! and show it peacefully. Once someone drops a nuclear bomb in this day and age, the world, as we know it, will come to an end. War is not the answer to terrorism.

Any attacks on the terrorists will result in a return attack. What the world desperately needs is a solution that will allow the global population to enjoy their lives without the need to annihilate an entire culture.
This event will be regarded as the single worst attack on the U.S. ever. How do you retaliate? Its not like you can go out there and one up them.

Anything we do just is a slap on the wrist to the perpetrators as a whole. Bush expects the world, in its entirety, to make a stand against terrorism. But the history of agreements in Afghanistan demonstrates that a stand will be difficult to sustain. Support for sanctions will quickly become diminished among nations other than the United States. This was true before the
Bush administration entered the fray, with its go-it-alone philosophy, walking away from treaties on missile defense and global warming, upsetting even our closest allies. It remains true today.

It is unlikely that we will ever see and end to terrorism. Terrorists are not born, but created as todays issues of today develop into the conflicts of tomorrow. The Associated Press has quoted 19-year-old Colin Zaremba, whose own name suggests
immigrant origins, as saying, Im proud to be an American, and I hate Arabs and I always have. It seems like everyone is proud to be an American these days, however, like Zaremba, most people, especially Americas adolescents, know nothing about being one. Being patriotic doesnt mean scurrying to your local Wal-Mart and buying the U.

S. flag gear or harassing Arabs; its much more than that. The democratic ideals of this country are hoisted up high around this world by our flag. Everything that our country stands for is symbolized in our flag and like Zaremba, Im afraid our leaders dont realize that.

The leading political parties of this country should exemplify our ideals, diversity, free speech, and tolerance.
President Bush cant expect the world to join us in fighting terrorism in the U.S., while it ignores the rest of the worlds issues. We can't overcome our reputation of imperialism and arrogance in much of the Afghani world when our own allies perceive us as dismissive of their concerns. We need to change the opinions of our friends before we can change those of our enemies.

While war appears to be the quick solution for the American people and the American government, but I think were missing the long-term goal. Ultimately, a policy steeped in understanding the worlds commonalities and not one based upon aggression and retaliation, will be a policy that allows us all to reap the benefits of world peace.
