Ray thinks he is going insane and asks his wife sitting on the porch if she heard anything, she denies. Then again the voice says “if you build it they will come. ” Ray is convinced his wife heard the voice but again she denies. Ray rushes to the kitchen and starts pondering ideas and why the voice said that to him.
He was listening to God. After countless hours of thinking and running the voice through his head a million times Ray thinks he has come to a conclusion. Ray believes the voice was telling him to build a baseball field on his farm.Ray does just that and several days later a beautifully groomed infield and freshly cut outfield was sitting in Rays back yard. Ray still has no idea why this voice was telling him to do this but he responded to God. Ray has been doing everything he has been told and has put all the pieces together but things momentarily seem to just get worse.
After cutting a third of his farm in half and watching the bank slowly take over his house Ray seems to loose his mind a bit. Ray gets frustrated when talking to shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray says, “I did it all.I listened to the voices, I did what they told me, and not once did I ask what's in it for me. ” As you can tell Ray is very frustrated with this whole situation but everything that has happened has been for him. Ray was experiencing sacramental blindness.
Through out the movie Ray had some pretty spiritual moments. He connected with God spiritually and physically. Ray went through many concepts we learned about during chapter one. He listened to God, responded to God, and even had sacramental blindness with God. This movie and chapter has changed the outcome of how I potray life.
