In today's world, people will find anything to Judge others whether it be your race, gender, or physical appearance.
Discrimination is the unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice. Intelligence, gender, race, and age are a few of the many types of discrimination. "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck is a book about two men named George and Leonie who find work on a new ranch. They had to escape from their last Job because Leonie scared a woman by pulling on her dress without any bad intentions, but the woman was scared and told the police she was aped.Race and gender are the two types of discrimination shown most throughout "Of Mice and Men" and affected the characters the most. One type of discrimination that is seen throughout "Of Mice and Men" is racism.
For example, in chapter 3 when Crooks is talking to Leonie in the barn, he says, " Cause I'm black. They play cards in there, but I can't play because I'm black. They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all stink to me. " (69) This shows that Crooks is separated from the group by sleeping alone in the barn and not doing any activities with the other men. This makes Crooks feel lonely and unwanted.
More racism is shown on the ranch when Curlers wife tells Crooks, "Well keep your place then Niger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it anti even funny. " (81) This helps illustrate how Curlers wife feels that Crooks has no value on the ranch. This also shows how much control she has over Crooks and that he has no say in anything. On top of racism being an important trait in 'Of Mice and Men", gender discrimination also existed on the ranch.
A second type of discrimination that is seen throughout "Of Mice and Men" is gender. Fro example, when Curlers wife complains saying, "Who's the matter with me?Anti got a right to talk to nobody? What they think I am, anyways? You're a nice guy. I don't know why I can't talk to you. I anti doing' no harm to you. " (87-88) This reveals that Curlers wife feels alienated from the rest of the people because she is the only lady, and they think she is causing harm. It also shows that she is aware that everybody thinks she is up to no good.
This is seen again when Leonie explains to Curlers wife in the barn that, "George says you'll get us in a mess. " (88) This helps illustrate how Judgmental the men on the ranch are simply based on her gender. Have heard about Curlers wife.Both racism and gender discrimination are seen throughout "Of Mice and Men" and influence the Judgmental tone seen throughout the novel.

Over the course of the book, various types of discrimination impact the story by separating specific characters from others and making some feel like outcasts. It also made some characters feel worthless and unwanted.
