The princess bride Based on a story written by William Gilding in 1973, the movie The Princess Bride a 1987 an American comedy, romance and adventure film was rated number 50 on Bravos 100 funniest movies, number 88 on the Americans film institute's greatest film love stories and 46 in channel g's 50 greatest comedy films list. The princess Bride is a wonderful romance, comedy and action sequence as it promotes ideal heroes for us to follow. It has a nostalgic feeling that reminds us of our childhood when stories always had a happy ending and only characters only had black and white personae.
The grandfather telling the story stated that he had edited out all of the parts of the story that were 'good' meaning that reading a story inspires one to create. The birth Wesley character is that of the archetypical hero with a slight hint of a rebel as shown as they try to take back the princess from the prince's castle. Wesley was neither child of divine or royal parentage but a mere farm boy. This works to inspire future generations that one does not need to be blessed with intellect or power but that one can earn it through hard work and determination.
The mask is an ingenious device used for deception and suspense. Despite being cliche©, it layers elements of realism and suspense into the story. The quest Despite the outwardly appearance of a typical princess rescue story, the plot twists and changes throwing us off balance reminding us how life is not perfect as well as to prepare ourselves for silliness and tangents from the characters. Even so the story follows a typical storyline where the damsel in distress is captured by a group of villains who kidnap her while the real villain hides in the shadows ready to strike after the hero makes his debut. The call to adventure was made known when Princess Buttercup got kidnapped by the villains who wanted to start a war between two nations. Strangely enough a lot of the action from the main character is seen of screen as he set sail for piracy and inherited the name the dread pirate Roberts.
It should be known that the name is nothing more than a mask to create the illusion of a demon to strike terror into the hearts of all. To compensate for the mediocre battle between the Spaniard and Wesley the 'Dragon battle' scene was amusing as shown hen they two strike up a casual conversation despite being enemies. This was a test of battle prowess while the battle later with the giant was a test of strength. This foreshadows the fact that the antagonist now may turn into a 'helper' later.
It should be noted that the main antagonist switches when Fanzine loses to Wesley in a test of intellect. These tests were designed to be suspenseful for the watcher as well as a debut for the protagonist. Wesley is dismembered, and crucified later by Count Rouge a mad scientist archetype when he loses to the prince Henpecking in a Attlee of numbers.Fezzes and Inning Montana helpers of Wesley manage to persuade a parody of a magician archetype named Max the miracle maker manages to save Wesley with impure motives of vengeance in mind.
This effectively symbolizes human nature as we always have an ulterior reason for helping someone. Everyone loves miracles but no one cares about reason so Wesley was resurrected. A cliche© but extremely effective idea called the apotheosis theme was absent from the Monty Handicapped with an incomplete resurrection that hinders his physical prowess,Wesley is forced to use his intellect to storm the castle, save the princess as well as killing count Rouge. The final battle was done in a creative and explicit way with a mediocre battle sequence between the Inning Montana combined with a bluff by Wesley to trick Hummingbird into submitting to him while in his lesser form. Along with the Meme line "My name is Inning Montana, you killed my father. Prepare to die".
This layers elements of suspense, action, comedy and romance into the story, an elegant balance between of the key elements. The destinyThe destiny of the struggle is short and predictable with the Buttercup being the boon to Wesley quest. Many of the better stories have an outcome that's unpredictable yet logical and cohesive with both desirable and undesired results. The emotional aspect of a story is a crucial one for success and one that this story fails to execute to a substantial extent. An example of this would be Heraclites death and resurrection as a god. 'They live happily ever after' leave us on a cliffhanger, but also a conclusive ending as it allows us to use our imaginations visualize the future vents in the endless stream of time.
The end of one story leads to the beginning of another. The romance The element of love isn't played very strongly in this story for there was no depth to it. Prince Henpecking was a flat cowardly character with no ability and easily ridiculed named compared to Wesley who was intelligent, strong and skilled. It was a cliche© battle of two men over a woman, a bit simplistic with a very predictable outcome with protagonist prevailing.
Many other stories have complicated live triangles and love squares with many variables such as appearance, personality, determination and strength to determine the victor. An example would be Heraclites, as Heraclites kills his own beloved children when he is struck by madness by Here's spell due to her resentment for him. This example shows the unpredictability of the future and imperfection of life as opposed to love conquers all. Analysis and conclusion What this story lacks is the ability to transcend above and present a unique, original idea or element or even an existing element and display it in a different perspective. A good example of the Latter would be the magna Bleach where the main character an see ghosts but they are portrayed to be friendly as oppose to the scary stereotype they are associated with.
The drama was mediocre at best despite the amusing comedy scenes, the scenery was unrealistic, and the antagonists were horrendously flat for we know nothing of their past, motivations, experiences, friends, emotions at any time. The best antagonists are the ones that rival or even transcend the protagonist in terms of depth. An example of this would be Dearth Evader from Star Wars. Though the talkative characters were an asset to the comedy, it let little room or mystery which plays a key role in suspense. It's important to have a delicate balance between comedy, suspense, action and romance. It should be noted that many key elements of narrative such as suspense, emotional impact, and surprise, the unwavering determination of characters, unbreakable bonds, apotheosis and Tolling personae could nave more Patten to teem.
I nee Test stories nave snatchers both protagonists and antagonists with motivations and emotions that we can sympathize and relate too, as well as amusing foils characters that can play off each there effectively and star players that we can strive towards.Though few of us can relate to such events, we can sympathize, relate and admire the characters. The reason this movie does not break the fourth wall is the inability to invoke emotional aspects of the audience, imply subtle meanings behind the main text or answer timeless questions such as the meaning of life, the perception of reality, the definition of Justice. Overall this story deserves a 3.
8 star rating for its bravo performance while losing 1. 2 stars for its lack of depth and emotional aspect.
