Lord of the Flies The image is startling a forest engulfed in flame, children dressed like savages, thier primal instinct driving them after the one person strong enough to resist their savagery. William Golding’s book tells the story about a group of young boys who crash land on an island.
There they are forced to hunt, build a society, and survive until all of their struggles come to a smoking end. In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding examines the theme that the capacity for evil exists in every human being. In Lord of the Flies the biggest source of evil comes from Jack.Jack turned savage and cruel in his self-proclaimed quest for power. “I’m not going to be part of Ralph’s lot” (Golding, Ch.
9 pg. 95). Jack is tired of being second so he breaks off to form his own tribe. Some say Jack did what he needed to survive this is false he did not need to lead or kill the others on the island.
“You should have seen the blood. ” Jack’s excitement to the pig’s blood instead of food shows as clear as day his lust for violence. That’s why Jack is the chip that cracked the structure of the tribe and sent it to chaos. In Lord of the flies Roger is Jack’s evil henchman. Roger always had a sick sense of humor.
“Roger throws the rock aiming to miss” (Golding, Ch. 4 pg. 62). Roger wants to hurt the little kid but from his experience he thinks that he will be punished. Some say Roger was just doing as he was told to by jack but this is wrong he had a choice.
High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment leaned all his weight on the lever. Roger chose to crush Piggy by rolling down the rock and killing Piggy. He let go of his civilized self. That’s how Roger lost his humanity.
In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding examines the theme that the capacity for evil exists in every human being. This theme is relevant many parts of real world history one such example is Osama Bin Laden who to most American is nothing if not evil. To many in the world he was a mass murderer but to his people he was respected, beloved, and even revered as a hero this shows the controversy inside of Lord of the Flies. Even so I have learned something from the message of this book is that every human being good or bad has the capacity for evil.
