After the level 0, to look at the process in more detail, a level 1 Diagram is used to show the sub processes that are happening within the processing circle for TGL. The diagram clearly and logically shows the process of stock order. To see Level 1 Data Flow diagram of TGL stock order see appendix A. Data flow diagram is one of analysis tool that helps businesses to increase software productivity and the quality of the system. The process and data flow is easy to understand from one process moving to another.

It will make the work efficient, as well as easier to understand. Networks The main purpose of a network is to simply connect a group, if not, 2 computers to together so that they can share information from each other. It also allows users to share files and peripherals such as modems, printers, software etc. Linking computers in a local network is called a Local Area Network (LAN).

In networks there is also Wide Area Networks (WAN), which spans a relatively large geographical area. These are to connect computers on different sites and are used over the internet. For an in-depth analysis of Networks See Appendix B. Recommendation Concerning the topology, (see appendix for more information), for connection of each of the computers, I would highly recommend a Star topology. This can easily be used on a WAN network.

A star topology may be the easiest to understand. The star topology is one of the most common network topologies found in most offices and organisations because of the cost and the ease of troubleshooting. If one computer on the star topology fails, then only the failed computer is unable to send or receive data. The remainder of the network functions normally. However, in this topology each computer is connected to a central hub or switch, if this device fails, the entire network fails. Although the company has grown, in comparison to many other clothing manufactures they are still very small.

Due to the current size of TGL, both of these Networks are important. Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN / WAN) are integral to the future success of the firm.. A company like TGL would use both types of networks, LAN for connecting each unit internally, and WAN to inter connect all their offices and units. Having a LAN in a unit, would be good for communication and sharing files and information.

However I think the 3 units should be connected to the mainframe which should be at Head Office. This allows easy access for firms. A mainframe network consists of a many PC terminals linked to a master computer called the mainframe, where all the processing and most of the information are stored.Although having all the information stored in one area may cause an over reliance on one computer, which could have a knock on effect on other computers if something went wrong. I also recommend the use of a client server network, this involves the use of one, more powerful computer which is responsible for printing, the maintenance of files and any peripherals connected to the network. It will allow staff to communicate with each other and also computers can access all the network facilities with ease.

The fact it is more flexible than the other servers than the peer-to-peer server, it's easier to update, and monitor. One of the problems of this system is that clients are dependant on the server, and therefore the server needs to be administrated properly and looked after to reinsure that there is no problems with the system. If the server goes down, the whole company is affected if it isn't backed up properly. Moreover preventing unauthorised access to company information and computer networks is a vital part for any business, especially seeing technology is becoming ever important.

Computer hacking, and other attacks on computers exist. It is simply something businesses must deal with, and the risks of intruders increases as businesses become connected to the internet, connect to the internet constantly. It is imperative that the business organization maintains state of the art tools to combat security threats. Use of passwords, physical security and firewalls, will all help.

When implemented correctly, firewalls can control access both to and from a network. They can be configured to keep unauthorized or outside users from gaining access to internal or private networks and services. This form of security controls offer protection but are limited, although a lot of the limitations can be fixed it comes at a higher price. However with important banking and financial information it is important TGL make every effort to invest in security, and reduce vulnerability to network attacks.

It is no longer an issue for managers to decide if security is needed, what security is needed for their business. Those that do not decide to secure their networks can face costs in the millions. Another point on this matter is that, I suggest the company to bring in a reliable team of engineers handling all daily operations of the network, including monitoring, maintenance, general trouble shooting and performance analysis. Problems will reduce the quality and effectiveness of work and cost TGL money. So it is important to have a reliable mainframe, server and network security, with a good team following it.

This will then set you on the way of having a stable and reliable network.
