The topics I chose for my current issue analyses seem to be more centered on social issues.
The topics that I wrote about were gang rape, texting and driving, transgender, death, and same sex marriage. There seemed to be more of a pattern concerning death. Three out of seven articles I wrote about were about violence, whether accidental or not. I believe I was drawn to these articles because when reading them I was emotionally affected.
The articles about transgender and same sex marriage affected me because I have family members who are homosexual and they have transgender friends. The article about rape that I wrote about affected me because I am a big activist in the rape movement, to educate people more and to stop rape from happening. The texting and driving article affected me as well because my best friend’s sister got hit by a driver who was texting and not paying attention to the traffic light. I would suppose that the way these articles affected me shows I have deep compassion for issues in our society and I would love to try and help out with making the world better for people today and generations to come. Our society, in my opinion, has become much more violent than it used to be.
I believe most problems in our society are important. If there is a problem, people should come together to help fix it. In order to help the world people need to be more involved, and informed as well. As a citizen you should be aware of what the country is going through, and what you can do as a person to help.
Being informed is the first step. Everyone is affected in some way by the problems that come over our society. It is true our society has come pretty far in accepting other people, though I wish they could be completely accepting.Gay marriage is still an issue and that honestly shocks me. When our society can learn to love everyone for who they are, we will all be much happier.
I have actually enjoyed doing these current issue analyses. It is nice to be informed about the problems in society and being able to discuss them with my peers. Before this I didn’t watch the news, or read the newspaper. The things in them saddened me to be honest. But I realize now that being informed is much better because instead of ignoring the pressing issues I can help out.
