This article investigates the relationship between study habits and students’ academic achievement in science subjects of X standard students. The aim was to determine the relationship between various aspects of study habits and students’ achievement in Science. This was meant to provide a clear understanding of the phenomenon. The survey method was used in the study.
A sample of 200 X students was chosen using simple random sampling technique. Some major hypotheses were raised leading to the application of correlation and regression analysis.Findings reveal that of all the study habits were regarded to students’ academic performances. Therefore, the students' study habits enhance their academic achievement. The main purpose of educational affair is to know the achievement gained by the students after exploring the different methods and techniques this is known as academic achievement. Study means to apply the minds to the acquisition of learning whether by means of books or observation or experiment. A habits is an accomplished form of behavior in which the things are done quickly, accurately, automatically with little voluntary attention.
Study habits means the acquisition of learning or observation of books quickly, accurately, automatically with attention. The formation of habits is very real needs for progress. Hence the need and indispensability of study habits is absolutely essential. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The purpose of the study was to find out the relationship between study habits and academic achievement of X standard students in Chidambaram Town. The study believed that if students’ study habits are improved and made consistent, academic performance would definitely improve.
The knowledge of student level of study would of course help the teachers to select appropriate techniques of helping students during teaching and learning procedures. It is related to the academic achievement of the students that is the outcome of the training imparted to students by the teacher in the school situation. Achievement in education precisely speaking implies one’s knowledge, understanding or skills in science subject. Although, it is generally conceded that teaching students how to study should be one of the fore most purposes of the school.Therefore a comprehensive study of achievement in science of X standard students in relation of study habits is a much felt significant. statement of the problem There is a direct relationship between study habits and academic achievement in terms of help by the family members, care by parents etc.

Knowledge attained or skills developed in the school subjects, usually designated by test scores or by marks assigned by teachers or both. Study Habits Study means to supply one’s mental capacities to the acquisition of knowledge. There is no doubt that study habits can be improved step by step.
