William Shakespeare remains the most loved and admired play write in history. He was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564.
He was the son of a tradesman who made and sold gloves in his town. When william was 18 he married Anne Hathaway and then became a father to Susanna in 1583. He written his first play 'Comedy of Errors' in 1594 and his last 'The Tempest' in 1613.Many of his plays were performed in the 'Globe' theatre, this theatre was round it had seats around the top for rich people to sit, so they could see the whole play clearly, and there as a pit at the bottom for the poor people to stand, this space was very cramped and smelly as if you moved for the toilet you would loose your space. Shakespeares most popular play even today is Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespere wrote Romeo and Juliet in 1595 when he was only 31. He wrote the play for Queen Elizabeth the 1st, the play also appealled to a wider audience at that time.Romeo and Juliet was set in a town called Verona in Italy. Romeo was a Montague and Juliet was a Capulet. There was a rivalry between the Montauges and the Capulets.
Romeo and Juliet fall madly in love and get married, but Juliet is made to be wife to Paris by her father. Juliet goes to see Friar Lawrence and takes a potion he gives to her, the potion makes her appear dead so she doesnt marry Paris. Act 3 Scene 1 is the turning point in the play, it is the scene where two of the main characters die.At the opening of the scene Mercutio and Benvolio are talking of a possible fight, Tybalt turns up looking for Romeo but Romeo is not there he is marrying Juliet.
Tybalt and Mercutio fight, Tybalt kills Mercutio then Romeo returns o find his best friend dying, Romeo and Tybalt fight and Tybalt is killed. The Prince then declares that romeo will be banished. Shakespeare uses many different types of figurative language. Mercutios language is full of imagery and metaphors for example, ''Here's my fiddle stick, here's that shall make you dance.
' this shows that Mercutio is a very flippant character, but by the end of this scene be very serious this is shown by '' I am hurt.A plague o' both houses! I am sped. Is he gone a hath nothing? '' this is said after Tybalt has stabbed him. He is cursing both the Montagues and the Capulets because he feels that his deathwould not have happend if there wasnt a fued between them. Mercutio was very different from the other characters in the play he was a dare devil and a comical character.
The Princes language is very poetic and powerful. The way he speaks make it look like he has planned out what he is goin to say before he says it. This shows that the Prince is a powerful important character, '' Therefore use none. Let Romeo hence in haste, else, when he is found, that hour will be is last'' shows that the Prince is very powerful as he has declared banishment to Romeo and if found will be killed. The general language that shakespeare uses expresses everything in great deatail that makes the play confusing in some scenes, but in some scenes it can make it much more interesting for example with the metaphors.
When he uses similies and metaphors it makes you think about whats happening and it puts an image into your head to set the scene. There are many different characters that appear in Act 3 Scene 1, most of them have a very big role to play in the production, for xample Romeo, Mercutio, and Tybalt are three of the main characters in Romeo and Juliet. Mercution is the character in the play that adds the comedy he likes to mess around and isnt a serious person.''Tybalt you ratcatcher, will you walk? ' Romeo is a very loving character, we know this because at the start of the play he is in love with another girl, and then when he meets Juliet he falls in love with her straight away and cant stop thinking about her. Act 3 Scene 1 is the most important scene of the play, there are many reasons for this importance.
The scene stages a part of the lay where two of the main characters Mercutio and Tybalt fight and die, it is also the turning point of the whole play, it changes the play from a comedy to a serious drama. After this scene the play is focused on Romeo and Juliet and their love for each other. The scene also propheases the end as Romeo gets banished. In my opinion this particular scene is good because it is full of action and it is more exciting than the other scenes, it makes the audience wonder about what is goin to happen next and makes them want to watch more.
I personally like the way Shakespeare uses the ifferent types of language beacause it made me think about what was happening more.In Shakespeares time the audience would have really enjoyed watching this plays as it gives them chance to forget about their awful lives. This play was a tradgedy and love play, as both of the main characters died a tragice death and love as they were in love with each other and they would die for each other because of their love. Shakespeare wrote his plays just for his audience , some of his plays were a sucess and some wernt.
Romeo and Juliet was a huge sucess and is still a popular play now.
