Since China's opening up to the world in the late 1970s, western cultures flooded into China. Some foreign festivals were also imported to China, and became rapidly very popular. At the same time, some traditional Chinese festivals such as Dragon Boat Festival, the Double Seventh Festival and Qingming Festival have declined..
Some people conclude that traditional Chinese Festivals have been overshadowed by foreign festivals. For example, China's Double Seventh Festival has been overshadowed by Valentine's Day, the Spring Festival by Christmas Day. Some people even call this trend "the Western Cultural Invasion".Some conservatives think that comparisons with Chinese festivals were overshadowed by western festivals, Chinese children would not respect their traditional cultures. The traditional culture which has been continued for two thousand years would be destroyed by western culture. It's not alarmist, now days some Chinese children could prepare for Christmas Day in November, but they couldn't know which day is Spring Festival.
Spring Festival is the most important festival in China, some of the “Country's Future” even ignore it now. It is definitely unacceptable to the conservatives. They don't allow it to happen.To deal with this problem, some people think the Chinese traditional festival should be protected. The school should play a key role in this situation, they should put more Chinese traditional knowledge in the textbook, and they should penetrate the Chinese festival in school activities. Parents also should give a good example for their children.
In addition, the authority could do more dissemination on Chinese traditional festivals. On the other hand, some businessmen think the western festivals are just tools for making money, they focus on it just for selling their products. They don't care how it would affect the Chinese children' minds. Therefore, the government should give limit to prevent businessmen on over publicizing.However, some of the people disagree with these solutions. They think cultures are supposed to be free and unlimited.
We live in a multicultural society, we should accept foreign festivals. Foreign festivals and Chinese festivals should be completed equal, if traditional festivals are not welcomed, they should to be eliminated. Furthermore, China was a very developed country in the past. However, 200 years ago, Chinese people didn’t want to accept foreign things. Thus, China became not as developed as before now. They don’t want to make the same mistake.
As far as I see, according to the technology development, the world is getting smaller,people from different country communicate more and more usual. We shouldn’t close our mind. By not accepting foreign festivals, but we also should keep our culture bottom line. On one hand, we should welcome foreign cultural imports in China, on the other hand, we must maintain our native culture.
